KEYSVILLE, Sept. 1 – Violet “Rae” Watson Smalley, 74, of Keysville, passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2009.

Surviving are her husband, Stephen M. Smalley; five sons, Lester Watson, David Watson, Percy Watson, Robert Watson, and Charles Watson; two daughters, Nancy Wakefield and Linda Robertson; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Libby Fowlkes; a brother, Carroll J. Fowlkes; and a sister, Joanna Crawford.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, in the Meherrin Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville on Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
