SEPTEMBER 2 – Earl Arthur Thompson, 74, of Farmville, died Monday, September 1, 2008 at his home.

Born July 4, 1934, he was a son of the late Arthur J. and Bertha Payne Thompson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Vicie, and his son, Phillip L. Thompson.

Mr. Thompson is survived by two daughters, Nancy Gail Ferrell and husband, James of Cumberland and Linda Kay Southall and husband, Andy of Keysville; four grandchildren, Kristopher Ferrell, Jonathan Ferrell, Phillip Thompson Jr. and Vicie Anne Southall; three sisters, Della Mendez of Farmville, Betty Hubbard of Keysville and Minnie Anderson of Farmville; three brothers, Roscoe Thompson of Buckingham, David Thompson of Bumpass, and Clayton Thompson of Farmville.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Doyne-Burger-Davis Funeral Home, where a funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Friday, with interment in Trinity Memorial Gardens, Rice. The Rev. Roger Barnett will officiate.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Randolph Fire Department or the Prince Edward County Rescue Squad.

Doyne-Burger-Davis Funeral Home, Farmville, is in charge of arrangements.
