Cecil W. Cason, 82

JUNE 4 – Cecil W. Cason, of Farmville, died Wednesday, June 3, 2009 in Farmville. He was a long time employee of the building and grounds department of Hampden-Sydney College. He is best remembered for his long tradition of lighting the college Christmas tree.

He was born July 3, 1926, a son of the late Pompey Henry Cason and Nannie Edwards Cason. He was predeceased by his wife, Cornelia Scruggs Cason; a sister, Louise Craft; and two brothers, Henry and David Cason.

Mr. Cason is survived by several nieces and nephews, including his caregiver, J. Hubert Allen Jr., and numerous great nieces and nephews, one of which, John H. “Trip” Allen III, he spent many hours with sharing his love of nature and hunting; also, a special brother-in-law, Jack H. Allen.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 3 p.m. at the chapel of Doyne-Burger-Davis Funeral Home in Farmville.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
