BUCKINGHAM – On Saturday, October 20, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Arvonia Fire Station, the Auxiliary of the Arvonia Volunteer Fire Department is hosting its Women's Day Out, an annual event that offers a head start on Christmas shopping and provides a rabies vaccination clinic and other public service information such as Caring for Creatures.
Product consultants will include Tupperware, Scentsy, Celebrating Home, Princess House, Tastefully Simple, Avon, D.E.B.s, Medifast, Mary Kay, 31, Passion Parties (lotions), Body by Vi, and Silpada.
Crafts will offer scroll saw art and fused glass pieces, woodcrafts, egg art, painted wine glasses, homemade wreaths, baby shower gifts and ideas, handmade cloth baskets, homemade jams and jellies, canning jar glasses, handmade jewelry, and crocheted items.
Dr. Babbitt will provide rabies vaccinations for dogs and cats from 1 to 3 p.m. Vaccinations will be $10 each.
Local chiropractor, Dr. Cerwinksi will be on hand to discuss spine strength and other related issues.
There is no admission fee. Food and beverages will be available.
On Saturday, October 20, Central Virginia Health Services, Central Virginia Community Health Center, the Health Center for Women & Families, and Southern Albemarle Family Practice are hosting the first annual Walk for the Cure and Survivor Celebration: A Day of Awareness-A Lifetime to Live.
Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. Survivors will open the event at 9 a.m. by taking the first lap around the quarter-mile track at the Health Center.
Walkers will use the quarter mile tack while runners take to the half-mile track. However, please note, the event is a fun RUN/WALK-not a timed race.
After the Walk/Run, a brunch will honor breast cancer survivors. During the brunch, there will be a keynote speaker and an opportunity for survivor testimonies. And, there will be drawings for raffle prizes.
The first 100 participants to register for the Walk/Run will receive a free T-shirt. Registration is $25 per person.
All proceeds from the event will go toward the mammography program at CVCHC, HWCF, and SAFP to help provide uninsured and underinsured patients with mammography services.

Spreading God's Gifts, a ministry devoted to helping those in need, is hosting a Spaghetti Dinner and Concert on Saturday, October 20, beginning at 6 p.m., at Buckingham County Middle School.
The concert features Smokey Wilson and Holly Cook. Admission is by donation to Spreading God's Gifts. Everyone is welcome.
In conjunction with October being National Anti-Bullying Awareness Month, Buckingham Baptist Church is hosting a Project iCare Anti-Bullying Rally on Sunday, October 21, at 6 p.m.
All youth, parents and community members are invited to join with the church to share in this time of learning more about this very real problem that affects adults and children alike.
The rally will feature speakers, music, which will include a performance by a local Praise & Worship Band, fellowship, and food.
Participants are encouraged to bring an appetizer type dish or dessert. Drinks will be provided.

A Department of Game and Inland Fisheries Hunter Education Class is scheduled here in Buckingham beginning Tuesday, October 23 through Thursday, October 25, from 6 to 9:30 p.m., at the Dillwyn Fire Station.
Students must be present all three evenings. Although the class is free, registration is required at www.huntfishva.com or by calling 1-888-516-0844.
Participants 14 years of age and younger must have a parent or guardian with them throughout the class.
Glenmore Volunteer Fire Department is hosting its annual Turkey Shoot on Friday nights during the month of October at the Glenmore Fire House, at 179 Firehouse Road. All proceeds benefit the Glenmore Volunteer Fire Department.
Plans include a Turkey Shoot on October 19, and 26, from 7 p.m. until.
Prizes include assorted meats and money rounds. And, concessions will be available with hot dogs, French fries, chips, soft drinks, coffee, and hot chocolate.
Please note that only 12 gauge shotguns may be used. No sleeve guns allowed and barrels will be checked before each round to verify cylinder size.
First Baptist Church of Dillwyn invites everyone to Revival beginning on Sunday, October 21 through Wednesday, October 24.
Revival services will be held on Sunday at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.; and, on Monday through Wednesday, services will begin at 7 p.m. each evening. Each service will include special music.
The Curdsville Community Center is hosting a Pancake Supper on Friday, October 26, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Cost is $6 for adults and children over 12; $4 for ages six to 12; and, children under the age of six get their pancakes FREE.
Curdsville Community Center is conveniently located off Route 15 on Route 633, School Road.
Glenmore United Methodist Church is hosting its Harvest Festival on Saturday, October 27, beginning at 3 p.m.
The afternoon will include food, games, cakewalks, and hayrides.
For those who would like to wear their Halloween costumes, please do so. Prizes will be awarded.
All food and activities are being provided by the church.

In their continuing effort to raise funds to cover programs and renovations at the Beath Animal Shelter, the Central Virginia Area Humane Society and SPCA is having a Howl-O-Ween Fundraiser on Saturday, October 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., in front of Farmer's Foods, in Dillwyn.
Along with some delicious baked goods, board members are going to be face-painted as dogs and cats and, for a donation to the CVAHS and SPCA, will pose with children of all ages for digital photographs. In turn, the photos will be emailed to a specified address.
Anyone who would like to help this worthy cause by donating baked goods may bring them on the morning of the sale or call (434)983-7387. Likewise, if you want to find out more about CVAHS and SPCA, give that same number a call.
On Saturday, October 27, at 5 p.m., Maysville Baptist Church is sponsoring its annual Fall Festival, hosted by Herb and Nancy Maxey at 93 Village Lane, located off Route 60.
The festival will include dinner, a costume contest (non-scary costumes, please), hayrides, corn hole, cotton candy, popcorn, and candy.

Historic Buckingham, Inc. is continuing its Halloween tradition of hosting the Spooky Hollow Drive Thru at the Historic Village at Lee Wayside.
This year's Drive-Thru is planned for Saturday, October 27, from 7 to 9 p.m. Admission will be a donation of $10 per car.
The chill in the air signals that it's almost time for the Curious Corner Store, the annual fundraiser sponsored by the Woman's Club of Buckingham County.
The grand opening is Friday, November 2 and the store will also be open November 3, 5, 6, and 7, from 8:30 to 4:30 each day. As it has in the past, Curious Corner Store will be located at the VFW Hall on Route 60.
This year marks the 32nd year for the Curious Corner Store, a weeklong project that offers used clothing in good condition and lots of miscellaneous household items that members have gleaned from their attics, garages, and closets.
The inventory also includes Rada Knives, fresh pecans from Georgia, and homemade baked goods. You will also be able to order natural evergreen Christmas wreaths for the holidays.
Great lunches will be prepared by WCBC members and served each day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Curious Corner Store features something for everyone-at a great bargain. And the best part is that the money you spend at Curious Corner Store helps fund the service projects of the WCBC.
Parents and students are invited to Buckingham County High School's annual Knight's Quest College Night, sponsored by the ECMC Foundation, on Tuesday, November 13.
The evening will begin with pizza and beverages at 6 p.m., with activities scheduled from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Sessions will include How Going to College Can Change Your Life, Paying for College, and Scholarship Searches and Scams.
Participating students will have the opportunity to win one of four $500 scholarships for college from the ECMC Foundation.
Because this event is an excellent opportunity to begin preparing for the college admission process, students of all grade levels and their parents are encouraged to attend.
Centenary United Methodist Church will host a Family Dinner and Movie Night on Friday, November 9.
Dinner, which will begin at 6:30 p.m., features a Taco Bar. Then, at 7:30 the movie Grace Card at 6:30 and the movie, Grace Card, will begin at 7:30 p.m. Cost is $7.00, with kids six years and younger free.

Here's a great way to enjoy some delicious BBQ while supporting the 4-H programming, volunteer development, and 4-H program scholarships for are youth in financial need.
The BBQ, planned for Friday, November 9, will feature chopped pork for $8 per pound; Boston butts for $30 each, whole loin for $40 each, half-loin $25 each, Myer's Recipe BBQ sauce for $5 per pint, and mild BBQ sauce for $5 per pint.
The BBQ will be ready for pick-up between 3:30 and 6 p.m. at the Buckingham Extension Office. Please contact the Buckingham Extension Office at 434-969-4261 to place orders.
In July, four high school classmates of the Buckingham Central High School Class of 1966 met for dinner at the Omni-Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC.
Attending were Laura Swartz Roach, of Newberg, Oregon; John Holmes, of Manassas; and Teddy and Mimi (Webb) Stout, of Lorton.
Much of the evening was spent telling stories and calling Crawford Roach at his home in Newberg, Oregon.
Laura, who is the Director of Career and Technical Education, Oregon Department of Education, was on the East Coast to attend a conference. John works for the Department of Defense at DOD Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization (JIEDDO). Teddy recently retired as consultant to Office of the Secretary of Defense and Mimi retired from Federal Service in DOD education and training.
