BUCKINGHAM – On Saturday, October 6, Central Virginia Christian School is hosting a fundraiser for its building fund. The fundraiser will feature a Motorcycle Ride, Gospel Concert, and food.
The motorcycle ride begins with registration at 9:15 a.m. Riders will leave the school's parking lot at 10 a.m. Registration fee for the ride is $15 for bike and driver and $5 for passengers. The ride will be approximately 85 miles.
After the ride, a Gospel Concert will begin at 2:30 p.m., and will feature Mark Waldrop, Al Gough, Carl Burnmaster, James River Cut-Ups, Barry Snoddy, and Smokey Wilson.
Tickets for the concert are $10 for adults and $5 for children ages four through 12. Children three and under will be admitted free.
Breakfast and lunch will be available. Beginning at 1 p.m., a BBQ platter will be available for $8 per meal. The platters will include barbecue, coleslaw, baked beans, roll, dessert, and beverage.

Glenmore Volunteer Fire Department will host its annual Turkey Shoot during the month of October at the Glenmore Fire House, at 179 Firehouse Road. All proceeds benefit the Glenmore Volunteer Fire Department.
Plans include a Turkey Shoot on each Friday night in October, including October 5, 12, 19, and 26, from 7 p.m. until.
Prizes include assorted meats and money rounds. And, concessions will be available with hot dogs, French fries, chips, soft drinks, coffee, and hot chocolate.
Please note that only 12 gauge shotguns may be used. No sleeve guns allowed and barrels will be checked before each round to verify cylinder size.
Buckingham Baptist Church is hosting its Fall Festival on Saturday, October 6, from 2 to 8 p.m.
Activities will include bounce houses, pumpkin painting, corn hole, face painting, ring toss, cakewalks, pony rides, funnel cakes, cotton candy, popcorn, hotdogs, and so much more. Music will be provided by Barry Snoddy and Dixie Hill Grass. And it's FREE.
Brunswick stew will be available for $7 a quart with proceeds benefiting the Youth Fund.
Pastor Doug Adams and the Buckingham Baptist Family invite you to join with them for a great fall afternoon of fun, food, music and fellowship. The church is located on Route 15 at Gold Hill.
On Sunday, October 7, it's barbecue chicken time at the Dillwyn Volunteer Fire Department. Chicken will be ready at noon and along with one-half BBQ chicken, the meal will include potato salad, baked beans, roll, beverage and a piece of HOMEMADE cake. Rest assured, those desserts are being baked by some of the county's best cake makers.
Dinners will be available for an $8 donation for each meal. Preorders are available at Foster Tire and Moss Motor until Friday at 5 p.m.
Spears Mountain Baptist Church is hosting a benefit for Melvin Kidd on Sunday, October 7, beginning at 3 p.m., at the church.
Music will include performances by Second Time Around and other talented singers including some from Maple Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church. After the music, supper will be provided.
Melvin has been unable to work due to a serious illness and, unfortunately, he does not have sick leave. Proceeds from the benefit will help with expenses incurred while dealing with this illness including the cost of fuel used traveling back and forth to the doctors.

On Sunday, October 7, beginning at 3 p.m., Buckingham Baptist Church will host the Fall Workshop for the Women's Mission Union of the James River Baptist Association. Please note that the meeting is open to women and men.
The workshop portion of the meeting will feature an interactive activity on human trafficking.
Afterwards, it will be time to play The Wheel of Missions. Move over Pat and Vanna because there are some new game show personalities in town.
Doug Adams, pastor for Buckingham Baptist, will be the host and Judy Ownby takes on Vanna's role, with help from Deborah Henshaw.
Along with a great time for everyone, there will be prizes for the contestants.
The men at Jones Chapel Baptist Church constructed the wheel and game pieces and it is available to area churches that would like to borrow it.
Art students of Martha Louis will have an exhibit of their watercolor paintings at The Spa on Sunday, October 7, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. The exhibit is open to the public and refreshments will be served. The Spa is located at 794 Main Street in the residential area of Dillwyn.
So you think your chili the best in the county. Well, here's your opportunity to prove it.
On Sunday, October 7, the Youth Group at Centenary United Methodist Church is hosting a Chili Cook-Off from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., at the church.
There's a $10 chili entry fee for all you competitive types. And, for us eating types, a donation to the Youth Group provides an opportunity to sample all the great tasting chili.
Official judges will be on hand to select the prize winning chili cooks and award the prizes. To enter the cook-off, call Jenn at (434)286-7786.
Along with learning how to perfect your chili recipe, there will be music, corn hole and games for the kids.
So bring your family and friends, a few lawn chairs and/or blankets, and enjoy a fall afternoon at Centenary UMC. Proceeds benefit the Youth Group to help with its missions and retreats.

There will be an American Red Cross Blood Drive on Wednesday, October 10, from 12 noon to 6 p.m., at Heritage Hall.
Sponsored by the Masonic Lodges of the 17th District, this blood drive offers an opportunity to be Extraordinary by becoming a true gift-giver, a giver of life.

Historic Buckingham and the Buckingham County Farm Bureau are working together to co-sponsor Fall Farm Fest on Saturday, October 13, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Historic Village at Lee Wayside.
Fall Farm Fest will include games, arts and crafts, antique tractors, blacksmith demonstrations, buggy rides, farm animals, beekeepers, and much more. Additionally, the Farm Bureau will be selling hamburgers for 68 cents, which represents the farmer's share.
Music will feature the Dixie Hill Grass, Central Virginia Blue, and more. Admission is $5. Children age 12 and under will be admitted free.
Cedar Baptist Church invites everyone to Harvest Fest on Sunday, October 14, beginning at 12:30.

On Sunday, October 14, the Masons of Taylor Lodge will be serving up barbecued chicken.
Yep, one of Buckingham's favorite foods will be hot off the grill at 12 noon. Meals will include one-half BBQ chicken, baked beans, potato salad, homemade dessert, and beverage for an $8 donation per plate.
Proceeds will benefit the on-going service projects of the Taylor Lodge, which is located on Route 20 at Centenary.
On Saturday, October 20, Central Virginia Health Services, Central Virginia Community Health Center, the Health Center for Women & Families, and Southern Albemarle Family Practice will be hosting the first annual Walk for the Cure and Survivor Celebration: A Day of Awareness-A Lifetime to Live.
Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. Survivors will open the event at 9 a.m. by taking the first lap around the quarter-mile track at the Health Center.
Walkers will use the quarter mile tack while runners take to the half-mile track. However, please note, the event is a fun RUN/WALK-not a timed race.
After the Walk/Run, a brunch will honor breast cancer survivors. During the brunch, there will be a keynote speaker and an opportunity for survivor testimonies. And, there will be drawings for raffle prizes.
Those who would like to attend the brunch but are not participating in the walk/run are asked to RSVP Lisa at 434-581-3271 ext. 3175.
The first 100 participants to register for the Walk/Run will receive a free T-shirt. Registration is $25 per person.
All proceeds from the event will go toward the mammography program at CVCHC, HWCF, and SAFP to help provide uninsured and underinsured patients with mammography services.

In conjunction with October being National Anti-Bullying Awareness Month, Buckingham Baptist Church is hosting a Project iCare Anti-Bullying Rally on Sunday, October 21, at 6 p.m.
All youth, parents and community members are invited to join with the church to share in this time of learning more about a very real problem that affects adults and children alike.
The rally will feature speakers, music, which will include a performance by a local Praise & Worship Band, fellowship, and food.
Participants are encouraged to bring an appetizer type dish or dessert. Drinks will be provided.

The Auxiliary of the Arvonia Fire Department is gearing up for another great Women's Day Out, an annual event that offers a head start on Christmas shopping and also provides a rabies vaccination clinic and other public service information including Caring for Creatures.
Scheduled for Saturday, October 20, the Women's Day Out will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Arvonia Volunteer Fire Department.
Product consultants will include Tupperware, Scentsy, Celebrating Home, Princess House, Tastefully Simple, Avon, D.E.B.s, Medifast, Mary Kay, 31, Passion Parties (lotions), and Body by Vi, and Silpada.
Crafts will include scroll saw art and fused glass pieces, woodcrafts, egg art, painted wine glasses, homemade wreaths, baby shower gifts and ideas, handmade cloth baskets, homemade jams and jellies, canning jar glasses, handmade jewelry, and crocheted items.
Dr. Babbitt will provide rabies vaccinations for dogs and cats from 1 to 3 p.m. Vaccinations will be $10 each.
Local chiropractor, Dr. Cerwinksi, will be on hand to discuss spine strength and other related issues.
There is no admission fee. Food and beverages will be available.
