Taking A Pass

COURTLAND – Prince Edward went to Southampton last Thursday with an opportunity to create a three-way logjam for the top spot in the Southside District volleyball standings after one of three times through in the triple round-robin.

The Eagles came back with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-19) loss and a little ground to make up if they want to be one of the two teams to reach the Region I Playoffs.

“They're better than we are at this point,” said PECHS head coach Bruce Bogese. “We're still not passing the ball well, which is something we shouldn't be having trouble doing, and it's driving me nuts.

“They're taller than us, which makes us have to double-block and puts us out of position, which can make our passing off and make our setting off.”

The Eagles (6-5, 2-2 Southside) begin the second of three trips through the SSD schedule this week. The Eagles were scheduled to begin at Park View. They lost to the Dragons 3-1 at home in September.

“We have stretches where we play well, and stretches were we don't. It doesn't make us different from other teams, but we've areas where we must improve if we hope to get to the playoffs.

“We will keep working on passing in practice and hopefully it will come around. When it does, I believe our fortunes will improve.”

Following their trip to Park View, the Eagles will return home to host Brunswick on Thursday, before traveling to Greensville next Tuesday.
