Geneva Dickerson

AUGUST 5 – Geneva Milvina Baber Dickerson, born July 13, 1921 in Buckingham County, a daughter of Katie Bell Self Baber and Harry Tucker Baber, died Sunday, August 3, 2008, in Farmville. She accepted the Lord and was baptized in 1929 at Sharon Baptist Church.

She and William (Willie) W. Dickerson were married June 21, 1940, and lived in Farmville where they were the parents of three children.

Mrs. Dickerson served many years as a volunteer member of the Southside Hospital Auxiliary, volunteered with The American Red Cross Canteen and, also, at Holly Manor Nursing Home. She was a former member of the Farmville Rebekah Lodge 87. Before her illness in 1999, Mrs. Dickerson was an active member of Farmville Baptist Church having served in various capacities.

Mrs. Dickerson was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years; two daughters, an infant, Josephine Ann Dickerson and Carolyn Jean Dickerson Moses; two brothers, Carrington and Paul Baber; and three sisters, Viola B. Gormaus, Christine B. Ragland, and Beatrice B. Ragland.

She is survived by her son, William W. Dickerson Jr. and wife, Barbara; three grandchildren, Dr. William Matthew Dickerson, Mark Cullen Dickerson, and Anna Elizabeth Dickerson Cordell; sister-in-law, Mrs. Paul (Ada C.) Baber; nephews, Charles and Albert Baber, Harry Ragland, Barry Gormaus, Charles Dickerson, and Preston and Carroll Hamlet; nieces, Hilda G. Johnson, Ann R. Altman, Joyce R. Martin, Virginia B. Ragland, Freda H. Whit-low, and Laurice H. Holht.

Family will receive friends Tuesday evening (today) from 4-8 p.m. at the home of William Dickerson Jr. at 3266 Hixburg Road in Appomattox County.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 6, at 11 a.m. at Farmville Baptist Church with interment in Trinity Memorial Gardens.
