DILLWYN, September 4 -Ruby Grace Peters Ranson, 82, of Dillwyn, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, September 2, 2012. She was the widow of John E. Ranson, Sr.

Mrs. Ranson was the office manager for John E. Ranson Sr., General Contractor for many years and was an active member of Enon Baptist Church. She loved the outdoors and working with her flowers. Ruby also loved to cook and her specialty was her homemade pound cake.

She is survived by two sons, John E. (Chet) Ranson Jr. and wife, Kathy of Meherrin and Thomas W. (Tommy) Ranson and wife, Donna of Dillwyn; grandson, Bradford E. Ranson of Farmville; brother, Paul B. Peters of Indiana; many nieces and nephews; and two very special friends, Billy and Mary Shumaker of Dillwyn. She was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Peters and two sisters, Hazel P. Wyatt and Pauline P. Word.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 5, from 6-8pm at Dunkum Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 6, at Enon Baptist Church at 2pm with interment at the church cemetery.

Remembrance contributions may be made to Enon Baptist Church or Hospice of the Piedmont.
