BUCKINGHAM – Chestnut Grove Baptist Church is celebrating Homecoming on Sunday, July 22.
This great day of fellowship will begin with Sunday school at 10 a.m. and worship at 11.
After the worship service, a covered dish luncheon will be shared.
Homecoming ushers in four nights of Revival, which will be held Sunday through Wednesday.
Each night of revival will begin with music at 7 p.m. The Reverend Phil Shouse, of Lynchburg, will be the guest preacher.
Pastor Brad Childres and the Chestnut Grove Baptist Church family invite you to join with them for Homecoming and Revival.
The church is located on Route 612, Chestnut Grove Road, just off Route 636, Francisco Road.
Browns Chapel United Methodist Church is hosting Homecoming on Sunday, July 22, and you are invited.
At 10 a.m., the Just Us Gospel Band, of Powhatan, will open the day with some great gospel music.
Morning worship will begin at 11:15 a.m. with the church's new pastor, the Reverend Bob Jennings.
After worship, the traditional homecoming covered dish luncheon, which includes heaps of good fellowship, will be enjoyed.
Revival services will be held Monday, July 23 through Friday, July 27, beginning at 7 each evening. The Reverend Billy Swan will be preaching.
Music on Monday night will feature Red Clay; on Tuesday Alexandria Carney and Barry Snoddy; Wednesday, the Reverend Jim Radford; Thursday, Baptist Union; and Friday, Kristen Allen and Worm Patterson with All Problems Solved.
Browns Chapel UMC is located on Route 617, Gravel Hill Road. Everyone is welcome.
Buckingham Baptist Church will host Vacation Bible School July 23 through 27, from 6:45 to 8:45 each evening.
The theme for the week is Amazing Wonders Aviation and classes will be available for ages four through 16.
On Sunday, July 22, at 6 p.m., a kick-off for VBS will include an air show with Bruce Dunevant and others. Afterwards, ice cream will be served and face painting will be available.
Each day of VBS will begin at the vintage aviation airstrip where kids will take-off from the Worship Rally Hangar with the first stop at Victoria Falls for Bible study. The journey continues as they travel to learn about missions under the Northern Lights, create crafts at the Great Barrier Reefs, move to music at the Matterhorn, explore fun recreation at the Grand Canyon and stop for a few snacks at the Paricutin Volcano.
“Come join in the fun and learn about God's Amazing Wonders in His Beautiful World,” shared a spokesperson.

Welcome Wesleyan Church is hosting a Kids Crusade beginning on Friday, July 27 through Sunday, July 29. And, everyone is invited.
This fast-paced, high-energy weekend will be led by David and Lisa Turner, children's evangelists and camp speakers for more than 15 years.
The Mystery of Blackberry Swamp will offer kids ages five through 15 games, skits, songs, and a kid friendly message.
The Kids Crusade will begin on Friday evening from 7. to 8:30 and p.m. Then, on Saturday morning, activities will begin at 10 a.m. and conclude by 1:30 p.m. A hot dog lunch is included on Saturday.
On Sunday, July 29, Welcome Wesleyan's morning worship service, at 11 a.m., will be devoted to the crusade. However, the church expects and encourages those who have a church home to attend their own church.
David Turner is a children's pastor and his wife Lisa is an elementary school teacher. They will be joined by their daughters who help with the songs, skits, games, and preaching.
“Their ministry has produced several thousand decisions for Christ,” shared Pastor Reed T. Goe. “We here in Buckingham County are fortunate to have them come hold a week-end event that will excite, entertain, and minister to all our kids.”
Welcome Wesleyan is also welcoming area churches to join with them for this ministry to children. All they ask is that participating churches provide an adequate number of workers to attend with the children from their respective churches.
Although Cloverbud Day Camp for ages five through eight will be held this week, Day Camp for Junior Clovers, ages nine through 13, is scheduled for July 30 through August 2, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day. The theme for this age group is Photography.

Come explore God's awesome power with Centenary United Methodist Church at Vacation Bible School beginning on Sunday, July 29, through Thursday, August 2, from 6-9 p.m. Classes will be available for ages three to adult.
Amazing Wonders Aviation: Awesome God! Amazing Power! is the theme. A light meal will be served each night, followed by music, Bible classes, crafts, and recreation.
During VBS, nonperishable food items will be collected to donate to a local food bank.

Grandparents' Day will come early in Buckingham this year. The Buckingham Chamber of Commerce has decided that this year's Best Grandma and Best Grandpa winners will be announced in conjunction with Senior Citizens Day, scheduled for August 25, at Ellis Acres Memorial Park.
Grandparents must be residents of Buckingham County. However, grandchildren, of all ages, who would like to nominate their grandparent or grandparents may reside outside of the county.
The nomination process involves writing a one-page letter stating why the grandchild feels his or her grandparent is the best. Or, the grandchild may want to use a simple form available at Moss Motor Company and the Buckingham Public Library. Entries should be sent to Buckingham Chamber of Commerce, P. O. Box 951, Dillwyn, VA 23936. Deadline is August 21, at 5 p.m.
Here's a fantastic opportunity for youth ages eight through 17 to enjoy an afternoon with nature.
Holliday Lake State Park is offering The Kayak Kids, a great half-day adventure that not only provides the basics of kayaking but an enjoyable Friday afternoon on the lake with park interpreters. The program begins at 1 p.m. and ends at 4 p.m.
In August, the program will be offered on August 3, 17, and 31.
Advanced registration is required by 12 noon on the Thursday before the respective program date.

Quick Start Tennis: Ellis Acres Memorial Park will once again host Quick Start Tennis for kids ages six to 11. The next clinic is scheduled for July 30 through August 3, from 6 to 7 p.m. Cost is $20.
Quick Start Tennis was developed by the United States Tennis Association to introduce tennis to youth at an early age. The equipment, which is designed for children, is furnished, and participants will get to take two of the kid-friendly tennis balls home.
Youth Football & Cheerleading Registration: Signups for ages five through 13 will be held at Gene Dixon Memorial Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 21. Cost is $55 per child. However, additional children in the same family will be able to register for $50.
Football and cheerleading practice begin on July 30, 6 p.m., at Gene Dixon Memorial Park.
British Soccer Camp: British Soccer Camp will be working with the Buckingham County Department of Recreation to provide a weeklong Soccer Camp from July 30 through August 3.
Player development for ages five to eight years old will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 noon each day; and, for ages nine through 14, from 5 to 8 p.m. Cost is $120 per child and includes a free ball and T-shirt.
This program is designed to provide your child a head start in player development for upcoming fall soccer leagues, and school soccer. Players will learn the ABC's of soccer, the moves, freestyle soccer, dribbling, passing/receiving, and much more. Registration is available at www.challengersports.com.
Co-Ed Soccer Signups: Registration for ages six through 17, based upon age as of August 1, will be held July 30, and Aug. 1, 2, behind Dillwyn Primary School, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Fee is $40 but will increase to $45 after August 11. Soccer Season for this age group begins August 14.
Registration for ages four and five, based on age as of September 1, will be held July 30 and August 1, 2, 16, and 22, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., behind Dillwyn Primary School. Fee is $35 but will increase to $40 after September 1. Soccer Season for this age group begins on August 27.
This year's Toga Community Benefit, scheduled for Saturday, August 4, will include the all-new Toga Rod Run for classic, antique, and custom vehicles.
Registration for the Rod Run will begin at 9 a.m., at the Toga Firehouse. Cars will leave the firehouse at 10 a.m. for a loop around a portion of the county. When the vehicles arrive back at the firehouse, they will be on display and judged for trophies. Prizes and a 50/50 will also be part of the Rod Run.

By the time the vehicles get back to the firehouse, the Toga Annual Benefit will be in full swing with great music and food.
All proceeds will go to the Toga Annual Community Benefit Fund.
On Saturday, August 25, Buckingham Active Seniors, B.A.S., is planning a fun-filled day for all area seniors and their families at Ellis Acres Memorial Park in Dillwyn.
Featured activities include a Senior Talent Show, which is open to any senior citizen or senior group. Additionally, the day will offer interactive demonstrations, programs, and speakers to help educate seniors on important topics that impact them. Moreover, seniors and their families will be able to become more familiar with specific services provided in this area.
There is no fee associated with becoming a vendor for this special day. However, B.A.S. does ask that vendors agree to contribute monetary donations or in kind items for door prizes. By doing so, vendors will be considered a sponsor and will be included on all advertising material.
Vendors may include health care providers; contractors that may offer discounts, free home maintenance checks, or specialty services for senior's living at home; awareness organizations, financial planners, legal services, insurance providers and similar services.
