BUCKINGHAM – On June 26, the Buckingham Office of the Virginia Cooperative Extension is hosting a free program on Wills, Living Trusts, and Estate Planning. Two sessions are available. The first will run from 3 to 4:30 p.m., and the second from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Both sessions will be held in the auditorium of the Agricultural Center.

Mourners Valley Baptist Church

On Saturday, June 23, from 8 a.m. to 12 noon, Mourners Valley Baptist Church is hosting a Youth Workshop, Armed for Battle.

Facilitators will be Carol Johnson, of Third Liberty Baptist Church, for ages 7 through 12; and Pastor Charles E. Simms, for ages 13 through 18.

The workshop will include a continental breakfast and lunch.

On Sunday, June 24, at 3 p.m., Mourners Valley will host a Men's Day Service. Focusing on the theme Men Calling on the Name of the Lord, (Genesis 4:26), the Reverend Anthony Ray, Sr., pastor of Little Union Baptist in Amelia, will be the guest speaker. He will be accompanied by the Little Union Male Choir and ushers.

Dinner will be served around 1:15 p.m., following the morning worship service.

Mourners Valley Baptist Church is located on Route 20, at 5341 South Constitution Route.

BCHS Class of 92

The Buckingham County High School Class of 1992 will be celebrating its 20th Reunion on Saturday, August 4, from 6 to 11 p.m., at the Dillwyn Rescue Squad Building. Plans include an evening of good food, music, and lots of reminiscing.

Unfortunately, the reunion committee is having difficulty locating quite a few members of the class.

Mahogany and Mink

Historic Buckingham Incorporated is hosting Mahogany and Mink, a fine antiques, artifacts and collectibles swap and sale, on Saturday, June 30, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Historic Village at Lee Wayside.

Admission will be a $5 per person donation to the Historic Village for its building projects. Children 12 and under will be admitted free. Food and beverages will be available.

The Kayak Kids

Here's a fantastic opportunity for youth ages 8 thought 17 to enjoy an afternoon with nature.

Holliday Lake State Park is offering The Kayak Kids, a great half-day adventure that not only provides the basics of kayaking but an enjoyable Friday afternoon on the lake with park interpreters. The program begins at 1 p.m. and ends at 4 p.m.

In July, the program will be offered on July 6 and July 20; and in August, on August 3, 17, and 31.

Advanced registration is required by 12 noon on the Thursday before the respective program.

Coed Softball Tournament

The Toga Annual Community Benefit is planning a Coed Softball Tournament for July 21 at Gene Dixon Senior Memorial Park. To register your team, call Jody Hackett at (434)660-1979.

Proceeds from the tournament will benefit Buddy and Doris Hackett.

Fantastic 4-H Fun Days

Fantastic 4-H Fun Days will offer two programs this summer. Both programs will focus on exploring nature with fun filled arts and crafts, games, field trips, and more.

Cloverbud Summer Camp, for ages five through eight, will be held at the Buckingham Agricultural Center on Tuesdays June 12 and 19, July 3 and 10, and an overnight camping trip on July 17 and 18.

Junior Clovers Summer Camp will be held on Thursdays June 14 and 21, July 5 and 19, and an overnight camping trip on July 26 and 27.

Summer Sensation Day Camps

Buckingham 4-H is sponsoring Summer Sensation Day Camps for Cloverbuds, ages five through eight; and Junior Clovers, for ages 9 through 13, at the Buckingham Agricultural Center.

Cloverbud Day Camp is scheduled for July 23 through 26, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Theme for this day camp for five to eight year-olds is Fun with Foods.

Day Camp for Junior Clovers, ages nine through 13, is scheduled for July 30 through August 2, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day. The theme for this age group is Photography.

Summer Program Guide

The 2012 Summer Program Guide for the Buckingham County Department of Parks and Recreation is hot off the press and filled with lots of summertime activities and programs for all ages.

Copies of the guide are available at the County Administration Office or by calling the Department of Parks and Recreation at (434)969-4242.

Quick Start Tennis

Ellis Acres Memorial Park will once again host Quick Start Tennis for kids ages six to 11. The first clinic is scheduled for July 16 through 20, from 6 to 7 p.m.; and the second clinic will be July 30 through August 3, from 6 to 7 p.m. Cost is $20.

Quick Start Tennis developed by the United States Tennis Association to introduce tennis to youth at an early age. The equipment, which is designed for children, is furnished, and participants will get to take two of the kid-friendly tennis balls home.

Summer Arts Camp

Yes, Buckingham, the Summer Arts Camp sponsored by the Buckingham County Arts Council will be held again this year from Monday, July 9 through Friday, July 13, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.

This amazing day camp offers youth ages nine to 14 an opportunity to explore the arts. Classes include dancing, pottery, sculpture, polymer clay, enameling, watercolors, and more.

Cost is $35. However, each additional child in the same family will receive a $5 discount.

Summer Art Classes

Summer Art Classes at the Buckingham County Arts Center include Drawing for Beginner to Intermediate. Classes will be held on Tuesdays from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., with the first session on July 17. The course is open to students from age 12 through adults.

Supplies needed for the course include a drawing pad, at least 12 by 16 inches, two ebony pencils, and a pink pearl eraser.

Leah Olivier, a professional artist for over 30 years who holds a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from Syracuse University, will be the instructor. Olivier has experience in teaching students from ages five to ninety.

Cost is $80 for four classes. However, each additional family member will be able to take the course for half-price. Call (804)492-5828 or (434)983-2020 for registration.

Blood Drive

The American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be in Dillwyn on Wednesday, July 11, from 12 noon to 6 p.m. at First Baptist Church, of Dillwyn.

This visit is sponsored by the Buckingham County Ruritan Club. And, yes, the Ruritans will be grilling up hot dogs with all the fixings for donors.
