Tax Rates Adopted

CUMBERLAND – The County's Board of Supervisors did adopt the proposed tax rates for 2012 during Tuesday's meeting. The proposed rates are unchanged from the 2011 actual levy, according to Cumberland County Administrator Vivian Giles.

The adopted 2012 proposed levy, per $100 assessed value, on real estate and manufactured homes is 68 cents.

The personal property rate is $4.50 and personal property for disabled veterans is one penny.

The airplane tax is 50 cents and the tax on machinery and tools is $3.75, which is also the same rate as that of heavy construction machinery.

The public service corporation tax is 68 cents.

Supervisor Bill Osl, District One, said, “Mr. Chairman, I make a motion that we adopt the 2012 proposed tax rates with no change from the current ones in place.”

Osl's motion carried with four votes.

Chairman David Meinhard, District Four; and Supervisors Osl, Parker Wheeler, District Five, and Kevin Ingle, District Three, voted in favor of the proposed tax rates.

Supervisor Lloyd Banks, District Two, abstained.
