The forecast called for cloudy skies and possible rain, but plenty of residents took the chance Saturday, showing up for the 2024 Farmville Flower and Garden Festival. In previous years, the town held a Firefly Festival in May to signal the beginning of summer. This year, the month got started a bit differently, with the Flower and Garden Festival.

Hosted by the Farmville Area Chamber of Commerce, with support from WFLO, Green Front Furniture and C21 Realty at Home, the festival was very much a hands-on experience, with interactive workshops for those who want to learn how to handle different types of flowers and material for the garden. There was also live music from a handful of bands and a number of flower displays.

When all was said and done, Chamber officials said they had roughly 25 vendors show up to take part in the event, held at Riverside Park. While it’s believed the expected weather kept some people away, officials were happy with the turnout for a first-time event like this. Now that the Heart of Virginia Festival is taking place in the fall, the goal is for this Flower and Garden Festival to fill its spot in the spring/early summer months.
