Firefighters from multiple departments received an early wake-up call Saturday, responding to a blaze in Farmville. The town’s dispatch received a call around 4:05 a.m., alerting officials that the East Osborne Street fire was already in progress. Farmville Fire Department responded with two engines. Hampden-Sydney, Prospect and Randolph departments were also called out to assist. But there was little they could do to save the building.

“The structure was fully involved when we arrived on scene,” said Farmville Fire Chief Daniel Clark.

He confirmed that the building was vacant. Once they confirmed nobody was inside, firefighters used an exterior attack plan to put the East Osborne Street fire out. As for how things ignited in the first place? That’s still unclear.

“We do not have any indication as to what started the fire,” Clark said.
