Joseph “Joe” Clarence CrumpJoseph “Joe” Clarence Crump, 88 of Sheppards, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Jan. 11. Joe was born in Buckingham County to the late William Harvey and Martha McLean Crump.

Joe was a retired contractor with Crump Construction Company, Inc., which he started with his brother, W. D. “Bill” Crump Sr. Prior to that, the two brothers owned a sawmill. Joe was known for his kind soul, making jokes, and telling stories of the old days. He was a top notch mechanic when it came to working on the construction equipment and he had massive skills operating a motor grader.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, W.D. “Bill” Crump Sr., Ray Crump, Charles Crump, Johnny Crump, Dewey Crump Sr., Carl Crump and James Crump; sisters, Bertha Crump Hedgepeth and Wilma Crump Dickinson and a special nephew, W. D. “Billy” Crump Jr., who he worked with and saw nearly every day for over 70 years.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, Jan. 21, at 2 p.m., at Concord Baptist Church Cemetery, 12053 Francisco Road, Farmville.
