William Walter MarksWilliam Walter Marks, 71 of Dillwyn, went to be with his Lord Dec. 21, following a brief battle with cancer. William was born Dec. 1, 1952, the youngest son of the late Lewis Vincent and Sarah Anderson Pearson Marks.

William was currently employed for 20 years with NXL/Kleinfelder and held the position of Regional Construction Manager. He had previously worked for Virginia Department of Transportation for over 20 years, Buckingham County Water System and also Goochland County Water System.

William, a lifelong resident of Buckingham County, volunteered in several capacities. He was a member of the Dillwyn Volunteer Fire Department for 16 years, an EMT on the Arvonia Volunteer Rescue Squad and coached baseball and softball for the Buckingham County Youth League for more than 20 years. He was also an avid train enthusiast since a young child. He enjoyed model railroading and participating with the Old Dominion Chapter of the National Railroad Historical Society. William enjoyed these activities but there was nothing that he loved more than his grandchildren and he spent many hours watching them play ball.

William is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Brenda Garrett Marks; daughter, Sherry Marks Dorrier and her husband, Travis; son, Stephen Daniel Marks and his wife, Victoria; his greatest joys, his grandchildren, Jordan Elizabeth and Andrew Wyatt; sister, Sandra Marks Russ; mother-in-law, Virginia P. Garrett; sister-in-law, Dorothy H. Marks and nieces, Wendy, Terry, Jessica, Vanessa and Katherine.

In addition to his parents, William was also preceded in death by his brother, Lewis Vincent Marks Jr.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 29, at 2 p.m. at Rocky Mt. Church, 348 Rocky Mt. Road, Dillwyn, with interment in the church cemetery. The family received friends on Thursday, Dec. 28, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Dunkum Funeral Home, Dillwyn.
