The Southside YMCA will begin offering outdoor activities Wednesday, May 20 in order to comply with state restrictions for gyms in Phase 1 of Virginia’s plan to reopen the economy.

The first phase of the state’s Move Virginia Forward plan restricts gyms to outdoor exercising.

The schedule for the YMCA’s “Healthy Outside” program will include yoga, body pump and Zumba. The YMCA will continue to livestream classes and activities on Facebook.

As previously announced, the YMCA will follow all safety protocols recommended by the CDC, and the Virginia Department of Health, as well as the best practices of the YMCA.

“Your health and safety is our top priority,” Jay Parker, Southside Virginia Family YMCA CEO, said. “Members and staff will have their temperature checked upon arrival, an online screening and waiver will need to be completed by members and staff before their first visit, and physical distancing will be implemented.”

A complete list of classes and information will be available on the Southside YMCA website no later than Sunday, May 17.
