Tigers move past Bridgewater in ODAC tourney

The No. 8-seeded Hampden-Sydney College (H-SC) men’s basketball team won 72-59 against visiting No. 9 Bridgewater College Tuesday night, Feb. 25, in the first round of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament.

“Such an exciting win tonight,” Tigers first-year Head Coach Caleb Kimbrough said. “Great crowd and great overall environment. It’s really special to be able to make it to Salem in this league. I’m very proud of our effort tonight.”

The Tigers (14-12) will now take on No. 1 seed and No. 5 nationally ranked Randolph-Macon College (23-2) in the ODAC Tournament quarterfinals Friday, Feb 28, at 1 p.m. in the Salem Civic Center in Salem.

H-SC avenged an 88-82 Feb. 22 home loss to Bridgewater (9-17) with the victory Tuesday. Leaders in the effort included Tigers junior center/forward Jake Hahn, with 22 points, 15 rebounds and three assists, and freshman guard Ryan Clements, who finished with 22 points and a career-high 12 rebounds, to go with two assists, a steal and a block. Sophomore forward/center Jack Wyatt added 11 points, six boards and two steals.

The Tigers outrebounded the Eagles 51-32 and enjoyed a 50-30 advantage in points scored in the paint.
