Dr. Ellery Sedgwick, president of the FACES board of directors, gave a tour of the new FACES Food Pantry to the Serendipity Club Feb. 13.
The mission of FACES is to provide emergency and supplementary food to qualified residents in the area. Dr. Sedgwick gave a brief history of FACES, explained the programs that it conducts including food distribution to families each Saturday and a Backpack program to local children on Fridays to provide them meals for the weekend.
He also explained the relationship to FeedMore in Richmond and the grant FACES received to help fund the new building into which FACES moved in 2019.
The new warehouse doubles the storage and distribution space including a walk-in refrigerator and freezer.
FACES is a totally volunteer organization that unloads the delivery truck, packs the food bags each week and conducts the distribution day every Saturday morning. It takes 40 to 50 volunteers each week to make this happen. The FACES Food Pantry fulfills a need locally to provide nutritious food to families and individuals.
