Lady Dukes enter regional competition
Cumberland County High School’s varsity girls basketball team began its play in the Region 1B Tournament Monday night, Feb. 24. The No. 3 Lady Dukes were set to host No. 6 Sussex Central High School in the quarterfinals. With a victory, Cumberland would play Wednesday, Feb. 26, at 6 p.m. in the semifinals against the winner of Monday’s showdown between No. 2 Riverheads High School and No. 7 Rappaahannock County High School. The regional final is set for Friday, Feb. 28, at 6 p.m. See Friday’s edition for more coverage of the Lady Dukes, including their 2019-20 All- James River District honorees. Making the first team for Cumberland was junior Janaia Trent, and making the second team was senior Sade’ Gregory, pictured at left from a game earlier this season.
