Lady Dukes are 2B track champs
Cumberland County High School’s varsity girls team won the 2020 Virginia High School League (VHSL) Region 2B Indoor Track and Field Championships Wednesday, Feb. 19, at the Arthur Ashe Center in Richmond.
The Lady Dukes, a VHSL Class 1 team, earned 112 points as the first-place finisher out of nine teams to generate points in a blended field that included both Class 1 and Class 2 programs. Cumberland’s nearest competition was Galileo High School with 88 points.
Junior Janaia Trent, who has also been starring for Cumberland on the hardwood this winter, won the girls triple jump regional title.
Head Coach Kenneth Jasey was honored as the 2019-20 girls indoor track championship team coach.
The VHSL Class 1 & 2 State Indoor Track and Field Championships are set for Feb. 28-29 at Roanoke College in Salem.
