Knights rout Eagles in rematch

Buckingham County High School’s varsity boys basketball team avenged its Jan. 30 loss to Prince Edward County High School Monday night, Feb. 10, defeating the visiting Eagles 82-36.

The Eagles had upset the Knights 57-56 in the Jan. 30 meeting.

But Monday, Buckingham jumped out to a 17-0 lead and made the most of its Senior Night.

Knights junior forward Gerry “Tae” Toney had a game-high 16 points to go with 12 rebounds. Sophomore guard Damorrious Holman had 12 points, and junior guard Amari Toney added 10 points. Center James DeVore, Buckingham’s lone senior, contributed 11 points and eight rebounds.

Buckingham (18-3, 13-2 district) concludes its regular season schedule Tuesday, Feb. 11, with a game at Nottoway High School. Prince Edward (6-15, 6-9 district) also ends its regular season Tuesday, hosting Cumberland County High School. Tipoffs are set for 7 p.m.
