Eagles stand out at state championship
Prince Edward County High School’s varsity swimming program saw four of its five relay teams and four individuals reach the evening finals of the Virginia High School League Class 2 Swimming & Diving Championship Thursday, Feb. 20, at SwimRVA in Richmond.
Renee Stimpert placed the highest of any Prince Edward swimmer, finishing sixth in the girls 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:05.74. She placed 10th in the 50-yard freestyle. She was also part of the Lady Eagles 4×400-yard relay team that finished 10th. She was joined on that team by Josie Hemmer, Carrington Detrick and Aly Lucas.
Hemmer placed 11th in the 500-yard freestyle. Stimpert, Hemmer, Lucas and Kevynne Dimaano comprised the medley relay team that finished 13th. Timara Smith placed 15th in the 100- yard butterfly.
Prince Edward’s boys medley relay team placed 15th, and it included Logan Tobias, Griffin Beach, Matthew Swanson and Harry Lettner-Rust.
Hemmer finished 16th in the 200- yard freestyle, and Charles Swanson finished 16th in the boys 500-yard freestyle.
Smith, Detrick, Cally Vogel and Sierra Mottley comprised the girls 4×200- yard relay team that placed 16th.
