DECEMBER 13

CRAFT AND BAKE SALE, 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. hosted by the UMW of Farmville United Methodist Church at 212 High St., in the church basement social hall — use Randolph Street entrance. VETERANS SERVICES, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. hosted by the Virginia Department of Veterans Services at the Farmville-Prince Edward County Library, 1303 West Third St., Farmville. For questions call (434) 582-5102.

OPEN HOUSE, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Peter Francisco Soil and Water Conservation District office located in the USDA Building at Sprouse’s Corner, 16842 W. James Anderson Highway in Buckingham. The District serves residents of Buckingham and Cumberland counties. Light refreshments will be served. NRCS, FSA and other cooperating agencies will participate as well. Come learn about the services available to the community.

S’MORES, COCOA AND CRAFTS, 5-7:30 p.m. at Bear Creek Lake State Park. Enjoy hot chocolate by the bonfire make an ornament or holiday craft. A donation is suggested to support the Friends of Bear Creek Lake State Park.

DECEMBER 13-15

LIGHTS AT THE LAKE, 5-7:30 p.m. at Bear Creek Lake State Park, 22 Bear Creek Lake Road, Cumberland. Drive through the park’s campground to experience a wonderland of lights and seasonal figures. A new unwrapped toy or monetary donation will be appreciated.

DECEMBER 14

JINGLE BELL RUN 5K, 9 a.m.-noon hosted by the Town of Farmville.

HOLIDAY HOUSE TOUR, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. sponsored by the Farmville Area Chamber of Commerce at The Avenues. For more information visit http://www. farmvilleareachamber. org.

ANTEBELLUM SAINT NICHOLAS, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at Sailor’s Creek Battlefield Historical State Park at the Hillsman House.

COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS SHOPPE, noon-2 p.m. at Payne Memorial United Methodist Church, 1 Stoney Point Road, Cumberland.

ASTRONOMY PROGRAM, 6-8 p.m. at High Bridge State Park for an opportunity to see shooting stars associated with the annual Geminid meteor shower and watch as the moon rises over the Appomattox River valley. Hosts will conduct a laser sky tour of winter constellations as well. Once the waning moon rises around 7:30 p.m. over the tree line, participants can examine its craters and other surface features through binoculars.

DECEMBER 15

ADVENT SUNDAY, 11 a.m. at Farmville Baptist Church.

CHRISTMAS PROGRAM, 1 p.m. at Jericho Baptist Church sponsored by the youth department.

CHRISTMAS TOM THUMB WEDDING, 3 p.m. at High Bridge Baptist Church, 2526 Lockett Road, Rice. Morning worship service will begin at 11 a.m. Dinner will be served between the services. All are welcome.

FREE CHRISTMAS CONCERT, 3:30 p.m. featuring Goff Mountain Bluegrass Gospel Group at Mt. Carmel, 1101 Mt. Carmel Road, Brookneal. All are welcome.

CHRISTMAS CANTATA, 5 p.m. at Heritage Baptist Church, located at 700 Milnwood Road in Farmville. The title is “Everlasting Light, The Promise of Christmas.” The public is welcome to attend.

MUSICAL/DRAMA, 6 p.m. at Concord Baptist Church entitled “Journey to the Manger.” A love offering will be taken for needy families in the area and a time of refreshments and fellowship will follow the presentation. Concord Baptist Church is located in the Sheppards area.

MUSICAL, 7 p.m. at Glenn Memorial Baptist Church, 147 Harris Creek Road, Prospect entitled “It All Happened in the Country.” The story surrounds a family of “city slickers” who are marooned in the country on Christmas Eve. Refreshments will follow. All are welcome.

DECEMBER 16

FREE CHRISTMAS CONCERT, 4:30-8:30 p.m. hosted by the Heart of VA Community Band at Wygal Hall on the Longwood Campus.

MEETING, 6 p.m. of the Prince Edward Branch NAACP at the SCOPE building, 505 Griffin Boulevard, Farmville.

DECEMBER 18

BUSINESS MEETING, 10 a.m. of the Southern Virginia GO Region 3 Executive Committee at the offices of the Halifax County IDA, 1100 Confroy Drive, South Boston. The meeting is open to the public; a closed session may be part of the agenda.

ADVENT LUNCHEON, noon-1 p.m. at Payne Memorial United Methodist Church, 1 Stoney Point Road, Cumberland.

DECEMBER 19

MEETING, 10 a.m. of the Cumberland Department of Social Services at the Cumberland Department of Social Services. The January meeting will resume Jan. 28 at 9 a.m. at the Cumberland Department of Social Services.

DECEMBER 20 AND 22

CANTATA, 7 p.m. at Cartersville Baptist Church entitled “Good News From Home.” Everyone is welcome. Refreshments will follow in the fellowship hall.

COMMEMORATION SERVICE, 2:30 p.m. at First Liberty Baptist Church to commemorate the life of Dr. Martin L. King, Jr. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Kippy Lundy, pastor of Third Liberty Baptist accompanied by his choir and ushers. Lunch will be served.
