The Prince Edward County Board of Supervisors recognized several Prince Edward County High School students during the board’s regular September meeting Tuesday night. As cited in the board meeting packet, these students participated in the Chemistry Olympiad Competition, which is a national multi-tiered competition. Antonio Harvey placed fourth on the first-year exam. Students taking the second-year exam included, Katrina Carrera, who graduated in May; Maria Carrera; Tiba Hamza, who placed second; Naomi Jones; Rachael Kinzer, who graduated in May and placed third; Abigail Swanson, Emma Watson and Melissa Williams. Prince Edward won the Team Award for the second-year exam in the Large School category. Prince Edward was also the winner of the School Award for the second-year exam. In addition, Hamza and Kinzer represented Prince Edward by taking the national exam. This makes the fifth consecutive year that Prince Edward has won a Team Award — for either the first- or second-year exam — and the second time that Prince Edward has won the School Award. Prince Edward consistently has one or more students earn one of the top-three scores on the exam for their year.
