Gladys Elizabeth Scruggs Fulcher

Gladys Elizabeth Scruggs Fulcher, 91, a long-time resident of Prospect, died peacefully at her home on Friday, September 20th, 2019.

Gladys was born in Buckingham County on October 12th, 1927 to the late William Madison and Eula Bergen Scruggs. She was the youngest of 10 siblings. She married the love of her life, Joseph Hoover Fulcher on June 8th, 1951 at the Methodist parsonage in Pamplin, Virginia and cherished each other for 68 years. They had one son, Joseph Madison Fulcher of Prospect, and one daughter, Ann Fulcher Simmons (Rick) also of Prospect.

Gladys began working at Craddock-Terry Shoe Factory in 1943, and retired in 1989 after working as a shoe cutter for 46 years. She was a lifelong member of Prospect United Methodist Church. She loved cooking, baking and spending time with family and friends. She was also passionate about her yard work, especially raking at the church.

In addition to her husband and children she is survived by two grandsons, Ben (Angelia) Fulcher, and Jake Fulcher, both of Cumberland County; and four great-grandchildren, Kristen, Kayla, Lauren, and Chance “Lil’ Man”; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorial gifts may be made to Prospect United Methodist Church, PO Box 216, Prospect, Virginia, 23960. A graveside service was held at the Prospect United Methodist Church Cemetery, on Monday, September 23rd, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Amy Beth Coleman officiating.
