Sandra Ann Crummett Fore

Sandra Ann (Crummett) Fore, 80, of Mill Gap, Virginia passed away Sunday, August 4, 2019 at Kings Daughters Community Health and Rehabilitation Center, in Staunton.

She was born in McDowell, Virginia on July 12, 1939, the only child of the late Edgar Bobpell and Verla “Virginia” (Michael) Crummett.

Sandy grew up and spent her childhood in Highland County. She went to nursing school for a short time, then worked for the University of Virginia, in Charlottesville, prior to meeting her husband Michael Fore.  She and Michael lived in Farmville and raised their three boys; and eventually purchased a local retail grocery business.  Upon the death of her husband, she continued as proprietor of Worsham Grocery; and was a successful business owner and integral part of the Worsham community for over 20 years.

In retirement, she returned to Highland County, and was active in her community, serving as Vice President of the Ruritan Club, and on the Electoral Board.    

She loved spending time with her five grandchildren and family.  She also enjoyed cooking, gardening and was an avid reader.  

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Michael Haywood Fore on July 30, 1986; and two foster siblings, Rita Brock Dunlap and John D. Brock.

Surviving are her three sons, Stephen R. Fore of Charlottesville, Charles M. Fore of Farmville, and Jasen E. Fore and wife, Jessica Eisfelder of Farmville; foster brother, Clarence J. Brock of Mill Gap; Brothers-In-Law, William “Buckie” (Joyce), Richard, Tommy (Susan) and Robert Fore; as well as five grandchildren, Christopher, Eleanor, Charlee, Michael and Bodie Fore.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m., Friday, August 9, 2019 at McKendree Cemetery with the Revs. C. William “Bill” Cox and Rick Hill officiating.

Family will receive friends during a meal of fellowship following the service at Beulah Presbyterian Church, 8740 Mill Gap Rd., Monterey, VA.

Active pallbearers will be Rodney Leach, David Blanchard, Vernon Simmons, Bucky Reynolds, Clay Hamilton and Gene Dever.
