Family and Farm Day

Spreading God’s Gifts will hold a fundraiser Aug. 10 at 5 p.m. at Enon Baptist Church. Smokey Wilson will be bringing the music. Dinner will consist of spaghetti, salad, dessert and an ice-cold drink. Dinner by donation only. Come out and support this worthy organization.

On Thursday, Aug. 15, at 6:30 p.m., the Curdsville Community Center will host a candidates’ forum for the 3rd District of Buckingham County. Three people are running for the Board of Supervisors and three for the Soil and Water board of the county. The candidates for the supervisors are Don Matthews, Wilbert Dean and David Ball. The candidates for soil and water board are Mr. Dunn, Mr. Bailey and Mr. McDaniel. Mrs. Morris, who is running for the school board, will also be present. This is not a debate, but simply informational. All voters of the 3rd District are encouraged to come. The Community Center is located at 122 School Road on Route 633, just off U.S. Route 15 North.

Enjoy the Family and Farm Day on Saturday, Sept. 14, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Virginia Tech Southern Piedmont Center near Blackstone. Come out for a day of fun hands-on activities to learn about Virginia agriculture and natural resources. Learn about aquaculture, soil conservation, bees, local honey, fruit and veggies, and aquaponics. Activities will be backyard bass, butter making, seed art, bird feeders, wood working, paper making, corn maze, playing games from the past and more. The event is free and will be held rain or shine.

The Buckingham Library will host a Disney movie trivia game on Friday, Aug. 9, from 6-7 p.m. where families compete against other families. Come out of the heat and enjoy some cool fun. Remember, the summer reading challenge goes through Aug. 31. Find a new book to read and discover new books while you earn prizes. Contact the library for further details at (434) 983-3848.

On Sunday, Aug. 18, beginning at 12:30 p.m., Cedar Baptist Church, located at 3932 Bell Road in Dillwyn, will have a Benefit Chicken Barbecue complete with sides, dessert and cold drink for a donation. This benefit is being held for Angie Davis Danly. She is a cancer patient who is not able to work at this time due to her aggressive health issues. Please come support this very important need in our community.

The Pregnancy Support Center is in need of the following items for clients: diapers size 4; pullups sizes 2-3T, 3-4T and 4-5T; and snack cups. You can drop these items off at the Farmville location during the hours of 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday, the Appomattox location from noon- 4 p.m. Mondays, or Dillwyn on Tuesdays from noon-4 p.m. For more information, call (434) 391-1011.
