Dumminger seeks school board seat

Dr. James Dumminger has announced he will be running as the incumbent for the District 701 Prince Edward County School Board seat. He was appointed to the school board to fill the seat vacated by Cainan Townsend until Dec. 31. If elected in November Dr. Dumminger’s term would end Dec. 31, 2021.

Dumminger, known by many in Buckingham as “Dr. D”, served as Principal of Gold Hill Elementary and as a central office administrator in Buckingham for 16 years until he retired in 2012. Prior to that he worked for 25 ½ years as an administrator at the elementary, middle and high school levels including 15 years (1971-1986) in the Prince Edward County School System. He earned degrees from St. Joseph College (Indiana), Longwood University and Virginia Tech. He is currently working as a Park Guide at Appomattox Court House National Historical Park.

Dumminger stated, “I have enjoyed working with the other P. E. School Board members and am looking forward to working with them to improve all aspects of the school system. My varied experiences provide me with the background to make informed decisions that will be in the best interests of the students and the community. One of my goals is to help spread the positive achievements of the students and graduates. My experience in school finance will help make recommendations to spend county money efficiently.”

Dumminger has been married to LouAnn Dumminger for almost 42 years and both sons, Jimmy and Timmy, graduated from the Prince Edward County School System. One is an architect and the other a nuclear engineer.
