Clinton Atwood Childress

Clinton Atwood Childress, 93 of Pamplin, VA passed away on August 21, 2019.

He was born in Old Well, Charlotte County, VA on February 23, 1926 to the late Forest A. and Bertha Woodall Childress. He served his country in the US Army during WWII in the 42nd Rainbow Division and the European Campaign. He worked as a deputy sheriff for the Prince Edward Sheriff’s Department and was chief of police for the SVCC. In his spare time he worked his cattle farm and was a founding member and chief of the Darlington Heights Fire Department. He was preceded in death by his wife Martha “Dolly” Morris Childress, brother William W. Childress and a sister Winifred C. Howard.

He is survived by 2 children; Rodger Morris Childress (Laura), Betty Childress Tinsley (Dallas), 3 grandchildren; Jason Dallas Tinsley (Reannan), Jessica M. Otey (Seth), Samantha M. Hudson (Brian), 6 great-grandchildren; Corbin Tinsley, Josh Bieler, Anderson “Andi” Otey, Chloe, Chase and Bryson Hudson; 1 brother James P. Childress; numerous nieces and nephews and a special caretaker Deborah Smith.

A service was held on Sunday, August 25, 2019 at 3 p.m. in Spring Creek Baptist Church. Family received friends from 2 p.m. until time of service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Darlington Heights Fire Department.
