The Church and Community Events calendar is published each Friday. Items must be submitted by 10 a.m. Monday for that Friday’s calendar. Events should be emailed to CommunityCalendar@ FarmvilleHerald.com.

AUGUST 16

FULL MOON OPEN TRAIL, 8:30 p.m. at High Bridge. Meet on the bridge over the Appomattox River and identify nocturnal animals by sound. Free event, parking rates apply.

AUGUST 17

GROW YOUR OWN GARDENING WORKSHOP, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at Prince Edward County Extension office followed by a tour of the Cannery from 4-5 p.m. Register by calling (434) 392-4246.

PARK OPENING AND DEDICATION, 10:30 a.m. of Farmville Lions Park, 1303 West Third St., Farmville. Come out and enjoy the new playground and enjoy music, food, games and fun.

AUTO CLUB TO MEET, 4 p.m.-dusk hosted by The Heart Of Virginia Auto Club in the parking lot by Tractor Supply and AA Storage. Bring your classic auto to show or drop by and check them out. There will be a 50/50 drawing.

AUGUST 18

BIBLE STUDY, 9:45 a.m. at Farmville Baptist Church with worship service at 11 a.m.

HOMECOMING, 11 a.m. at Thomas Chapel UMC, 1313 Cartersville Road, Cartersville. Covered dish meal to follow. Also, the Thomas Chapel Cemetery Association will hold a meeting at 3 p.m. following homecoming.

BENEFIT CHICKEN BBQ, 12:30 p.m. at Cedar Baptist Church located at 3932 Bell Road in Dillwyn. This benefit is being held for Angie Davis Danly. Angie is a cancer patient who is not able to work at this time due to her aggressive health issues.

CELEBRATION, 3 p.m. at Rocky Branch Baptist Church for the 400th year of being in America. Two sermonettes will be delivered along with the SMG choir rendering the music. Dinner will be served. Come out and celebrate with us.

WOMEN’S MINISTRY PROGRAM, 3 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church, Keysville. Prophetess Sharon Davis of Richmond will be the guest proclaimer and the Mt. Ellis Baptist Church choir will render the music. Everyone is welcome.

AUGUST 18-22

HOMECOMING/REVIVAL, 10 a.m. at Salem United Methodist Church, Ca Ira Road, Cumberland, beginning with Sunday school. Worship service at 11:15 a.m. with the Rev. Billy Swan. Dinner will be served. Revival services will be held each night at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Alan Murphy. There will be special music each night with different guests. All are welcome.

AUGUST 18-23

HOMECOMING/ REVIVAL, 11 a.m. at St. Andrews Baptist Church, Cullen with pastor, the Rev. Dr. Maurice D. Finney preaching the morning service. Dinner will be served. There will be no afternoon service. Revival will begin on Monday with praise service at 7 p.m. and regular service at 7:30 p.m. Revivalist for the week will be Elder James Holcomb, III from Alabama. Different choirs will render the music.

HOMECOMING/REVIVAL, 11 a.m. at Midway Baptist Church. Dinner will be served. There will be no afternoon service. Revival will be held Monday-Friday with prayer and praise services beginning nightly at 7:30 p.m. followed by worship service at 8 p.m. There will be different ministers for the week. The Rev. Irma T. Watson is Pastor.

HOMECOMING/REVIVAL, 11 a.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Leon Jackson delivering the message. Revival Services will be held Monday-Friday with prayer and praise at 7 p.m. There will be guest preachers with their choirs each night.

HOMECOMING/REVIVAL, 11 a.m. at Gravel Hill Baptist Church, Jetersville with Pastor Eugene Claiborne, Jr. delivering the message. Lunch will be served. Afternoon service will begin at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Rather, pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church, Burkeville. Revival will take place Monday-Friday with prayer and praise at 7:30 p.m. and worship at 8 p.m. Guest revivalist will be the Rev. Earl Walker, pastor of The Fourth Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Crewe. All are welcome.

HOMECOMING/REVIVAL, at First Rock Baptist Church with the Rev. Preston Little of Lynchburg as guest minister for the morning service and the Holy Trinity Baptist Church young adult choir providing the music. The Homecoming service will begin at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Brian Ferguson as guest minister accompanied by his choir. Revival will be held Monday-Friday with prayer and praise service at 7 p.m. followed by the worship service at 7:30 p.m. The Rev. Dr. Cavell Phillips of Richmond will be the guest evangelist. Different choirs will provide the music.

HOMECOMING/REVIVAL, 11 a.m. at Baptist Union Baptist Church, 125 Baptist Union Road, Dillwyn with pastor Timothy I. Jackson, Sr, delivering the word. Lunch will follow. Afternoon service will begin with praise service at 2:30 p.m. and homecoming services at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Howard Grooms, pastor of White Rock Baptist Church, Nelson. Revival will be held Monday-Friday with prayer and praise services at 7 p.m. and revival services at 7:30 p.m. There will be different revivalist and choirs each night.

HOMECOMING/ REVIVAL, 11:30 a.m. at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church. Dinner served immediately following service. Revival starts on Monday at 7 p.m. Guest minister will be the Rev. Adam Freeman. There will be a different choirs each night. Come out and fellowship with us.

MONTHLY MEETING, 6 p.m. of the Prince Edward Branch of the NAACPat the SCOPE building, 505 Griffin Blvd., Farmville. All are welcome.

SEASONAL CANNING WORKSHOP, 8 a.m.- 2 p.m. at the Prince Edward County Cannery, 7916 Abilene Road, Farmville. Salsa will be the topic for August. To register, call the Prince Edward Extension Office at (434) 392-4246.

GROUP MEETING, 5 p.m. of the Farmville Baptist Church knit and crochet group each Wednesday in the parlor.

ONE-TIME SALE 10 a.m.-7 p.m. hosted by The Friends of the Barbara Rose Johns Farmville-Prince Edward Community Library of audio-visual items in advance of the September book sale. The A/V sale will include music CDs, movie DVDs, books on tape and children’s items. Friday’s hours will be 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

AUGUST 24

YMCA COMMUNITY GARDEN WORK DAY, 8-10 a.m. at the YMCA, Farmville. Share the work, share the harvest. Seeds and tools provided. All ages welcome. Stay as little as you like or as long as you can. For more information call (434) 392-4246.

HABITAT RESTORE GRAND REOPENING, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., hosted by the Farmville Chamber of Commerce. The Piedmont Habitat for Humanity, formerly the Farmville Area Habitat for Humanity welcomes you to its new location at 1506 South Main St., Farmville next to the Food Lion store.

ANTIQUE CAR AND TRUCK SHOW, 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. hosted by The Hamilton Foundation, a nonprofit organization, at the Hamilton, 1862 Cartersville Road, Cartersville. All proceeds will go to help with the restoration of The Hamilton. True-Fixin’s will be there to provide food and drinks.

Prayer and praise service will be held at 2:30 p.m. with the afternoon service taking place at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Larry Harris, Pastor of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church, Arvonia, accompanied by his choir and ushers.

GOSPEL CONCERT, 3 p.m. at Mt. Moriah Upper Room Baptist Church, Tuggle Road, Farmville. The guest group will be The Royal Supremes. All are welcome.

REVIVAL, 7 p.m. at Hobson’s Chapel, 6483 Old Buckingham Road, Powhatan beginning with a kickoff dinner on Sunday at 5:30 p.m. All are welcome.

HOMECOMING/REVIVAL, 10 a.m. at Glenmore United Methodist Church, 7988 Howardsville Road, Glenmore with music by Nicci Headly from Tennessee. Worship service will begin at 11 a.m. Dr. Paul Larrimore, pastor, will deliver the message. Lunch will be served. Revival will be held Monday-Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Rev. Robert Price, pastor of Bethany Baptist Church Charlottesville, will be the guest speaker. Special music will be provided. All are welcome.
