Scholarships awarded

Cumberland County Public Schools Foundation Inc. recently announced the 2019 scholarship awards. According to a news release, the foundation awarded 39 scholarships to 25 students (seven college students and 18 high school students) for a total of $33,650 — its highest total ever. The release further stated, “To date, the foundation has given a total of $127,734 in teacher grants and $342,950 in scholarships to Cumberland High School graduates.” Marya Elasha received a Colonial Pipeline and a Friends of the Library Scholarship for $1,250. Elasha is a 2016 Cumberland High School graduate and is a returning college student to Virginia Commonwealth University majoring in health, physical education and exercise science.
