The Church and Community Events calendar is published each Friday. Items must be submitted by 10 a.m. Monday for that Friday’s calendar. Events should be emailed to CommunityCalendar@ FarmvilleHerald.com.

JULY 19

VFW FUNDRAISER, 5-8 p.m. at Buffalo Wild Wings, Farmville. All net food sales will be donated to VFW Post 7059, Farmville, for special veteran projects. This includes takeout order.

JULY 20

FARMVILLE BOOK CLUB TO MEET, 10 a.m. at Farmville library to discuss the book “Where’d You Go” by Maria Semple. Everyone welcome.

QUILT GROUP TO MEET, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at First Baptist Church, 815 N. Main St., South Boston. Questions, call Ellie at (434) 572-1998.

OUTREACH EVENT, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. hosted by The Church Of All Nations at the SCOPE building located at 505 Griffin Blvd., Farmville. There will be free clothing and food available and warm fellowship. Elder Wendy Lyle-Jones and Pastor Betty Jones welcome all to attend.

YOUTH CELEBRATION OF PRAISE, 3 p.m. at First Liberty Baptist Church. The theme will be “I’ll Give Him My Best Praise,” through songs, praise dancing, poetry reading and dramatizations. Refreshments will be served.

MONTHLY CRUISE-IN, 4-8 p.m. hosted by The Heart of Virginia Classic Auto Club at the parking lot by Tractor Supply and AA Storage. Bring your classic car to show or just drop by and admire all the cars. The cruise ins are held the third Saturday each month April-September.

BIKE RIDE TO HIGH BRIDGE, 7 p.m. Meet at the Outdoor Adventure Store on Main Street, Farmville. Total distance of the tour is nearly 10 miles. Participants will need helmets, working headlamp and rear reflector.

ASTRONOMY NIGHT, 8-11:30 p.m. at High Bridge. Learn about NASA’s Apollo program, see a moon map with the six Apollo landing sites identified and learn about how the moon affects life on earth. Event is free. Parking rates apply.

JULY 21

BIBLE STUDY, 9:45 a.m. at Farmville Baptist Church with worship service to follow at 11 a.m.

ANNUAL DAY, 11 a.m. at Midway Baptist Church, 387 Guinea Road, Farmville hosted by the Pastor’s Aide Ministry. This year’s theme is “Are You Serving Wholeheartedly?” with the scripture reference Romans 12:1-12. The Rev. Silas Blanton, Associate Minister of Sharon Baptist Church, Farmville, will deliver the preached word.

HOMECOMING, 11 a.m. at Hobson’s Chapel, 6483 Old Buckingham Road, Powhatan. Potluck meal will follow. Everyone welcome.

HOMECOMING, 11 a.m. at Bethel Grove Baptist Church. The Rev. John Hurt will deliver the morning message with dinner served immediately after the service. No afternoon service. Revival services will resume Wednesday, July 24-26. The Rev. Earl Walker of Fourth Mount Zion Baptist, Crewe, will be the guest minister for the week. Prayer and praise at 7:30 p.m. and the preached word at 8 p.m. Various choirs from the community will render the music. All are welcome.

FAMILY AND FRIENDS DAY, 11 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 1144 Hendricks Road, Prospect. The speaker for the morning service will be Pastor Darryl Brown. The speaker for the 3 p.m. service will be the Rev. Ron Parker of the First Baptist Church, Blacksburg. Music will be provided by Pastor Mike Chambers and Choir of Christ Temple Bibleway Church, Lynchburg. Lunch will be served following the morning service.

INSTALLATION SERVICE, 3 p.m. at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 18 Horsepen Road, Farmville for the Rev. Cetric A. Gayles as the new pastor.

SOUTHERN GOSPEL SING, 6 p.m. featuring Joe Lackey at Heritage Baptist Church, 700 Milnwood Road, Farmville. In memory of Alden Hicks.

JULY 22-26

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL, 6-8 p.m. at Spirit of Life Church of God in Christ, 308 S. Virginia and Church St., Farmville. Theme: World Changers. Elder Novey W. Wiley, Sr. is the pastor. Everyone welcome.

REVIVAL, 7:30 p.m. at Mercy Seat Church. There will be different guest revivalists for the week. Prayer and praise service will begin at 7 p.m. All are welcome.

JULY 23

BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING, 11 a.m. for The Piedmont Soil and Water Conservation District in the conference room of the Prince Edward County Natural Resources and Agricultural Building, 100 Dominion Drive, Farmville. The public is welcome to attend.

JULY 24

FUN BUNCH LUNCH, noon at Merk’s, hosted by Farmville Baptist Church.

CAMP LOUD & CLEAR for youth ages 8 and older who are deaf or hard-of-hearing at Holiday Lake 4-H Center. Contact Jake for more information.

JULY 27

BACK TO SCHOOL SUPPLY DAY, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Bright Hope Center, Cumberland Road. Free back to school supply packages for preschool and K-12 will be available. A free lunch will be served from noon to 12:30 p.m. There will be face painting, crafts, door prizes, games and activities. A parent/ guardian must accompany students who must attend Cumberland County Schools (proof of residence). HOMECOMING, 11 a.m. at High Bridge Baptist Church with a dual sermon by Pastor’s Reginald and Eva Hurt. The Rev. Dr. Irene B. Allen and choir of Mt. Gazerine Baptist Church, Blackstone, will provide the service at 2:30 p.m.

GUEST PREACHER, 11 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, Burkeville, will be the Rev. Barbara. Homecoming service will be held July 28 at 3 p.m. with Pastor William Thomas guest preacher. Mount Zion 2nd Baptist Church choir and congregation will accompany him. All are welcome.

USHER’S ANNIVERSARY, 4 p.m. at Sulphur Spring Baptist Church. The program will feature the Waller Sisters from Altavista. All are welcome to worship with us.

JULY 28-AUGUST 2

HOMECOMING, 11 a.m. at Old Green Creek Green Baptist Church. Dinner will be served immediately after morning service. Revival services will begin Monday, July 29, thru Friday, Aug. 2. Prayer and praise will begin each night at 7:30 p.m. with revival at 8 p.m. Pastor Joseph Allen of Spreading Oaks Baptist Church, Arvonia will be the Revivalist. All are welcome.

HOMECOMING/REVIVAL, 11 a.m. service with Pastor Carrington at Tearwallet Baptist Church. Dinner will be served with service to follow at 3 p.m. Revival will begin Monday with different speakers, choirs and ushers each night.

HOMECOMING/ REVIVAL, 11 a.m. at Pilgrim Baptist Church, Jetersville with Pastor, the Rev. Marvin Oliver delivering the morning sermon. Lunch will be served. An afternoon service will begin at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Damion T. Batts of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, Blackstone accompanied by his church family. Revival will begin on Monday with prayer and praise service at 7:30 p.m. and worship service at 8 p.m. There will be different pastors each night. All are welcome.

JULY 29-31

FOOD CHALLENGE: SUMMER EDITION, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. for youth ages 9 and up to learn cooking skills and participate in a Food Challenge cooking competition on Aug. 2 with other area teams and a Pork Challenge competition in Smithfield on Aug. 24. Space is limited. Contact Jake at (434) 392-4246.
