Goldman to run for Commissioner of the Revenue

Edna Trent Goldman has announced her intentions to seek the Democratic Party’s nomination for Commissioner of the Revenue for Prince Edward County. Goldman is a native of Prince Edward County and was raised in Farmville on Watkins Street by her mother, the late Edna Trent Tucker.

After graduating with honors from Prince Edward High School in 1980, she attended Virginia Union University (VUU) where she pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Alpha Eta Chapter in 1983. Her quest to give back to community was inspired by the sorority’s mission of “cultivating and encouraging high scholastic and ethical standards and be of service to all mankind.” She graduated from VUU with honors in 1985 earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Science and became a social/caseworker for the Washington, D.C. government’s Department of Human Services until 1993.

After 10 years of public service in the nation’s capital, Goldman fulfilled her lifelong desire and drove cross-country to Los Angles, California. Settling in the San Fernando Valley and working in the filming industry allowed her to expand her professional career and enhance her customer service expertise. As an administrative coordinator responsible for contract preparation and assisting the company’s sales division, she gained valuable experience in business operations in the private sector. Goldman was with Magic Film & Video Works from 1994 to 2002.

The desire to fulfill her calling in social work and public service, prompted Goldman to move back to Prince Edward County in 2002 where she was employed by the Piedmont Regional Jail as a certified jail officer. While employed at Piedmont Regional Jail, she met and married her husband, Robert L. Goldman who is employed by the Prince Edward County Sheriff’s Office. They have been happily married for 15 years, and she is the proud step-mother of his three children.

In 2005, she was hired by the Prince Edward County Department of Social Services where she worked until 2013, when she accepted the position of deputy commissioner for the Prince Edward County Commissioner of the Revenue, where she is still employed. Some of her job duties and responsibilities as a deputy commissioner include assessing taxes for businesses and individuals and processing state income tax returns. Goldman has established an ongoing relationship with the staff of the Treasurer’s Office and Clerk of the Courts and understands the needs and requirements of taxpayers. She also assists realtors, assessors, surveyors, lawyers and other commissioners of the revenue offices when called upon.

As commissioner of the revenue, Goldman will continue to provide a friendly, courteous and professional staff dedicated to services for all and free services for completing state income taxes.

The Democratic Committee will hold its caucus on Tuesday, June 4, at the train station located at 510 West Third St., Farmville. Doors will open at 6 p.m. to register. Voting will start at 7 p.m.
