The State Fair of Virginia is conducting its 26th annual wine competition to promote and showcase the Virginia wine industry, a vibrant and important element of agriculture in the state. All proceeds from the competition will benefit the State Fair of Virginia Scholarship Program. Since 2013, the State Fair has awarded 1,272 scholarships and has dedicated over $472,000 to youth education. This is a great way to get your new and established wineries involved in showcasing agriculture and the wonderful work being done around the state. In entering the competition, a winery agrees to send three bottles of wine (half bottles are acceptable). To qualify for entry in the 2019 State Fair of Virginia Wine Competition, a wine must be produced and bottled by a winery located within Virginia. Grapes must be grown in Virginia. The same wine may not be entered in more than one category. All wine entered must be commercially available to the public. All wines are judged double blind on the 100-point scale. All wines are judged in a single competition. All wine entries become the property of the State Fair of Virginia. All wines will automatically be entered in the State Fair of Virginia Label Competition. Entries are due by June 3 and delivery is easy, just drop it off at your local Farm Bureau office.
