Annual spelling bees at CVCS

Central Virginia Christian School (CVCS) held its annual spelling bees March 14. Both elementary and middle school students representing their respective classes competed. Briana Wilson was the elementary champion, followed by Rachel Hicks in second place. Cole Lefferts took home the trophy in the middle school, followed by Timothy Donahue in second place.

On Friday, April 26, join the Buckingham Library for the film “To Kill a Mockingbird.” Show starts at noon, so don’t miss it.

The Virginia Cooperative Extension-Cumberland office is offering a free Farm Transition Workshop on Wednesday, May 8, from 1:30-4:30 p.m. at the Randolph Volunteer Firehouse (GPS address: 2145 Cumberland Road, Farmville). This workshop will help farm owners and their families plan for the successful transfer of their farm and forest lands and business. Topics include: goals for the future of your farm, business profitability, retirement planning, estate planning, tax management issues, and business organizations. Third Liberty Baptist Church, located at 2244 C.G. Woodson Road, New Canton, is hosting a Pastoral Care (Pastor’s Aid) Ministry Workshop Saturday, April 27, from 10-11:30 a.m. Facilitator is Dr. Gail E. Williams from Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church, Richmond. This workshop is presented at no cost and a continental breakfast will be held at 9:15 a.m. All are welcome. Pastor Kippy Lundy, with the help of his wife lady Cynthia Lundy, serves as pastor of Third Liberty Baptist Church.

Attend the Women in Agriculture Symposium on Thursday, May 2, from 5-8 p.m. at the B.A.R.N. facility in Buckingham. From 5-6 p.m., meet and greet with agencies and from 6-8 p.m. enjoy the guest speakers. Light refreshments will be served. The Dillwyn Fire Department chicken barbecue will be held Sunday, April 28.

Painting the Town of Dillwyn Purple and The Hope Day Program honoring Cancer Survivors and Caregivers is Saturday, April 27, at 6 p.m. at Ellis Acres Memorial Park, 245 Camden St., Dillwyn.

Buckingham County Public Schools will host kindergarten registration on Tuesday, April 30, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. and 5 p.m.-7 p.m. Bring your child during these hours to register for kindergarten and get a brief tour of the school. Students must be five years old on or before Sept. 30. Bring the following documentation with you: two proofs of residency, birth certificate, physical exam record and immunization record. Revival will be held at St. Andrews Baptist Church in Dillwyn from April 28 to May 1. Brother Don McCann from Kingsport, Tennessee will be the guest speaker. Sunday services are 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Wednesday services are 7 p.m., with Monday’s special music by Second Time Around, Tuesday by Smokey Wilson, and Wednesday by Don and Linda McCann.
