Spring is in the air

On Saturday, March 23, a wine and cheese with silent auction benefit will be held to raise funds for the furnishings, fixtures and equipment for the new library in Buckingham County. The benefit will be held at the Buckingham VFW Hall located at 14405 W. James Anderson Highway. The event runs from 6-8 p.m. Ticket price includes wine, nonalcoholic beverages, and hors d’oeuvres. Items for the silent auction will be open for bids until 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door, from a member of the Fundraising Committee or at the Buckingham County Public Library, 1140 Main St., Dillwyn. If you have items, contact Pat Howe. Items will be accepted until March 15 which can also be delivered to the library to the attention of Amy White, branch manager. Join an enjoyable evening and support a worthy cause.

Buckingham Dillwyn Garden Club will hold its first meeting of 2019 on Monday, at the Buckingham County Arts Center beginning at 10 a.m. Members and guests are welcome. The 2019 budget and program schedule will be presented along with a floral activity in anticipation of the South Central District Meeting being hosted by Buckingham and Farmville Garden Clubs on March 12.

The Buckingham Dillwyn Garden Club and the Ruth Adams Garden Club of Farmville are co-hosting the Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs South Central District meeting on Tuesday, at the Moton Museum beginning at 10 a.m. The clubs are also hosting a National Garden Club Standard Flower Show entitled “A Spring Wedding” which is free and open to the public from noon-2 p.m. at the Moton Museum.

The Central Virginia Gold Prospectors will hold its next meeting on Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at the VFW Hall near Buckingham Courthouse.

Don’t miss the Miss Buckingham Pageant on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Buckingham County High School. Sponsored by the Dillwyn Fire Department.

Annual raffle, silent auction and barbecue dinner will be held on Saturday, starting at 4:30 p.m. to raise funds for 4-H campers who ordinarily do not have sufficient funds to attend and enjoy a wonderful summer camp experience. The event will be held at Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center. For more details, call (434) 248-5444.

Remember to spring forward on Saturday night, as daylight saving time begins on Sunday at 2 a.m. Spring is inching closer and the days are getting longer. Come on spring.

Relay for Life will hold organizational meetings on March 14 and April 14 at 6 p.m. at administration building of Central Virginia Health Services.
