After an unbeaten week in which she went 4-0 in singles play, Longwood University freshman tennis player Emma Nurgazieva earned her second Big South Freshman of the Week award, the conference announced Wednesday.

Continuing her breakout freshman campaign, Nurgazieva defeated all four opponents she faced in singles play last week to extend her team-leading singles record to 10-1 this spring. Among those wins were Big South victories against Radford University’s Katey Fruehauf, UNC Asheville’s Christin Louw and Campbell University’s Alexandra Nicoara. She also added a non-conference victory over Howard University’s Dominique Jackson.

Nurgazieva was dominant during that stretch, winning three of those four bouts in straight sets as the Lancers went 2-2 as a team during the week.

Her 7-5, 6-1 win over Louw helped Longwood defeat UNC Asheville 5-2 for the program’s first win over the Bulldogs since joining the Big South Conference in the 2012-13 season.
