Charles ‘Charlie’ William McKay

Charles “Charlie” William McKay, Sr., 78, of Worsham went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, October 29, 2018. Charlie was born on August 13, 1940 in Worsham, Virginia to the late Raynard Hayden and Audrey Arthur Mckay.
Charlie was a part-time deputy for Prince Edward County Sheriff’s Office for 30 years. Charlie began his employment with Hampden-Sydney Police Department in 1989 where he cared for thousands of young men as a police officer, investigator, K9 handler, and a DCS certified firearms instructor. During his law enforcement career, Charlie also found the time to serve the citizens of Prince Edward County’s Hampden District as Board of Supervisor from 2000-2015.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Curtis McKay (Nancy) and a son, Bennett (Benny) Lee McKay. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Patsy Mckay; brother, Bernard McKay (Ann); and sisters, Ann Carol Barton (Charles) and Jerolene Jennings; sons, Charles (Bill) W. McKay, Jr. (Maureen), Christopher (Chris) Charles McKay (Leslie), Todd Thompson (Natalie), and Jody Thompson (Lisa); and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family received friends Thursday, November 1 from 6-8 p.m. at Shorter Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Friday, November 2 at 1 p.m. at Shorter Funeral Home with interment to follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens.
