Hampden-Sydney College (H-SC) sophomore kicker Rhett Andersen capped off a dramatic 38-35 win for the Tigers as his 46-yard field goal with time expiring lifted the home team over Guilford College on homecoming weekend. The game saw both teams hold leads and a 35-35 tie with under three minutes to play. After the defense got a crucial stop in their own territory, the Tigers drove the field to take the win. In addition to Anderson’s heroics, freshman running back Kaleb Smith, pictured above, had a monster game with 332 yards of total offense — 214 rushing yards and a touchdown on 30 carries and 118 receiving yards on 12 catches. Smith’s 214 yards rank fourth best in school history for a single game. Sophomore wide receiver Dillon Costello finished with seven receptions for 118 yards and three touchdowns, and senior quarterback Alec Cobb went 29-for-40 passing for 358 yards, four touchdowns and one interception. On defense, sophomore linebacker Brendan Weinberg and junior linebacker Griffin Davis had nine total tackles apiece. H-SC (3-3, 3-1 ODAC) visits Ferrum College (3-3, 1-3 ODAC) on Saturday at 2 p.m.
