The site of the former Tipton’s Midway Grocery at 3156 Cumberland Road is set to soon reopen under new ownership, but seeking to provide many of the same services with a few added features.
Gary Singh received a gift deed for the approximately 10-acre property by Pilvinder Kaur Aug. 23. Kaur is his wife, Singh said.
Kaur received a foreclosure deed of the property April 10, 2017, Julie Phillips, Cumberland Commissioner of the Revenue, confirmed.
Singh said the store, called Raman Midway Market, is expected to reopen in October.
“We are going to have everything there,” Singh said. “Like a one-stop shop.”
The convenience store will have cold cut and fresh deli meats, a service kitchen to cook pizzas and fried chicken. He said people can make large orders of food in advance.
It will have 24-hour Marathon gas station pumps that provide regular, premium and off road/on road diesel fuel and a propane and kerosene fill station.
He said they will install a parking area for larger trucks and other vehicles, and removed a house on the property to create room for the parking area.
The inside of the store will be remodeled, Singh said.
Singh said the convenience store located at the intersection of Cumberland Road and Anderson Highway was previously owned by Raman Enterprises, Inc., but was sold to focus on the new location on Cumberland Road.
Raman is the name of their daughter, Singh said about the company name.
The Midway store is adjacent to a proposed Dollar General store, which would be located on two-and-a-half acres of property and that the Cumberland County Planning Commission recommended to the Board of Supervisors during a meeting Aug. 27. The Board of Supervisors held a public hearing on the proposed Dollar General store Tuesday.
The store at the intersection is currently owned by AAIRAH LLC., a representative from the Cumberland County Commissioner of the Revenue Office confirmed.
