More than 150 power outages have been reported in two separate areas off U.S Route 360, Patrick Henry Highway Monday afternoon as of 4 p.m., according to an outage map from Southside Electric Cooperative.
A flash flood watch for portions of the Heart of Virginia, including Prince Edward and Cumberland, has been issued until 8 p.m. this evening, the National Weather Service (NWS) cited in a recent advisory.
“Bands of showers and thunderstorms with heavy rain will move north across the region producing up to 3 to 5 inches of rain in some areas,” the NWS cited. “Flash flooding is likely in areas which experience heavy rain for more than one to two hours. This will case some roads to be
closed and water could threaten some homes and businesses.”
Buckingham County is expected to have isolated showers and storms that could result in locally heavy rainfall that may be enough to result in flooding. An isolated tornado also remains possible into this evening.
A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding.
The NWS encourages residents to monitor the forecast and take action should a flood warning be issued.
