A tree came down on several poles around 2:50 a.m. Sunday in and around Prospect during a storm, causing a power outage for initially more than 1,000 Dominion Energy customers, a representative for Dominion Energy stated Sunday afternoon.
The representative said that all customers were expected to have their power restored by 4 p.m. Sunday.
Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Communications Representative Paula Jones confirmed that a tree fell across a power line on U.S. Route 460 near Route 649 causing a power outage.
“A detour was put in place,” she stated in an email sent shortly before 1 p.m. “At this time, one eastbound lane is open.”
On its website as of 8:45 p.m. Sunday, Dominion Energy was reporting no one without power in and around Prospect.
On its website as of 1:26 p.m., Dominion Energy was still reporting on its Outage Map that 503 customers remained without power in and around Prospect. Dominion Energy noted that the cause was due to a broken pole and that a crew was working on it. In terms of an estimated time of power restoration, the company simply stated, “reassessing condition.”
