Time to make a change

Editor:

I am going to resist the temptation to enter into the ugly political back and forth in recent letters to the editor. Instead, I want to focus on things that I think we can all, or at least most of us, can agree upon.

First, we need to insist that both Congress and the executive branch begin to put the welfare of all of the American people ahead of political ideology. The political infighting that is paralyzing our country needs to stop. We can actually get things done if we work together.

Second, we need to insist that our President and our representatives in Congress are honest and have integrity. We need to stop the corruption in Washington and we need to be able to trust our representatives.

Third, we need to insist that the Congress and the POTUS actively and vocally support the Constitution and the pillars of our democracy. Constant attacks on the media and the rule of law are damaging our faith and our children’s faith in this country.

I love this country and it makes me very sad to see what’s going on right now. We may not all agree on the particular candidates who are best qualified to represent us, but surely we can agree that we should all participate in our democratic process by exercising our right to vote in the upcoming elections.
