Owens announces candidacy

I, Mildred “Midge” Owens, would like to take this opportunity to announce my candidacy for the position of Circuit Court Clerk of Cumberland County. During my career I previously served in county government as a sworn officer and I assisted with various duties pertaining to the Circuit Court, General District Court as well as Juvenile and Domestic divisions.
I have been employed for approximately the past 20 years with Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance right in the community in the Cumberland County office. I am currently licensed by the Bureau of Insurance of the State of Virginia in both Property and Casualty Insurance as well as Life and Health Insurance. I am a duly accredited Certified Senior Insurance service representative recognized by the Board of Governors of the National Alliance of Insurance. I also sit on the Virginia Farm Bureau Member Service Advisory Council for the current year and was personally chosen out of 240 people to hold this position not once, but twice. I am commissioned by the State of Virginia as a Notary Public and have done so for nearly 20 years and remain in good standing.
In my current position I am responsible for maintaining all Cumberland County Farm Bureau records including but not limited to the articles of incorporation, state corporation commission filings, by laws, amendments, financial records and personal records and data for our members which consist of over 1200 individuals. I assist at the Board of Directors monthly meetings by scheduling guest speakers, transcribing resolutions and minutes, and gathering all other monthly reports required such as financial, membership, new and old business matters. I also secure the guest speakers for the annual county meeting which include senators, congressmen as well as local dignitaries. I provide friendly, competent and courteous service to all our members as well as county residents.
I am a recent widow and the mother of two children, my daughter, Miranda (Owens) Watson, husband Jordan Watson and son, T.J. Owens, both are graduates from Cumberland County schools. I also have two grandchildren, Breyson Jordan Watson (5) and Blayne Scott Watson (2). I am an active member of Payne Memorial Methodist Church in Cumberland and continue to serve and support the community in various ways by participating in local events such as the food bank, Relay for Life, Delma’s Pantry and Patriots Days.
