July was a very busy month, starting with the Fourth of July parades in my local community of Elmo and also the Town of South Boston’s parade. Denver Riggleman, who is running for the seat being vacated by

Del. James Edmunds

Congressman Tom Garrett, walked the entire parade route greeting the hundreds of people there.

I worked with Delegates Danny Marshall in Danville and Les Adams in Chatham to facilitate a meeting on school safety in our region Tuesday, July 17, at the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research (IALR) in Danville. Several representatives of the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) made a presentation on information that has been collected by their Virginia Center for School & Campus Safety Division. The DCJS is one of the resources that the Virginia House Select Committee on School Safety is using to help determine a school safety Plan of Action for the Commonwealth.

Sportsmans’ Caucus

As Co-Chairman, with Senator Emmett Hanger, of the Virginia Legislative Sportsman’s Caucus, I had the distinct pleasure of exposing the Caucus to the wonderful wilds of Southwest Virginia. During session the Caucus decided to explore a fellowship trip that would focus on outdoor sports’ activities, with all legislators – Republican and Democrat – who are interested in promoting outdoor sports in Virginia. We decided on the St. Paul community, which is reinventing itself through the promotion of active outdoor sports.
