The Longwood University women’s basketball team has had an opportunity this summer under first-year Head Coach Rebecca Tillett to grow under a new system and build chemistry with each other on and off the court.
“The summer is a special time to focus on an academic class and devote the remaining time to basketball skill development, speed and strength training and lay the groundwork to build a cohesive team,” Tillett said. “Our women made gains on the court and progress towards creating a competitive culture. Some of their growth was on display when they used some crafty teamwork to steal the coaches’ laundry basket of balloons during a water balloon fight. We cannot wait to have everyone back on campus and continue to build something special.”
Rising junior guard/forward Dayna Rouse said, “By eating together three times a day, having a taco/game night, hiking and volunteering, we’ve been able to continue learning about one another and grow as a team.”
