The Buckingham County Darlings All-Star team established itself as the No. 3 team in the state at the recent seven-team 2018 Virginia Dixie Softball Darlings State Tournament held in Farmville. Going 2-2 during the tourney, Buckingham fell to the Halifax National All-Stars on July 13 and was eliminated by the eventual champions, the Amherst American All-Stars, on July 16, but the girls from the Heart of Virginia also logged two impressive victories in between those contests. One win came with the final score of 23-12 against the Emporia-Greensville All-Stars on July 14, and the other came the next day via a 22-1 result against the host team, the Prince Edward-Farmville Youth Association All-Stars. The Dixie Softball Darlings age division is intended for 7- and 8-year-old girls. Half of Buckingham’s team is expected back next year, while the other half will age out and move up to the next division.
