The Church and Community Events calendar is published each Friday. Items must be submitted by 10 a.m. Monday for that Friday’s calendar. Events should be emailed to CommunityCalendar@ FarmvilleHerald.com.

JULY 28

BACK TO SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE, 10 a.m – 1 p.m. at Bright Hope Center on Cumberland Road (Route 45, near Route 60). Free back to school supply packages for pre-school and K-12. Free lunch will be served from noon to 1 p.m. There will be games and activities. A parent/guardian must accompany students who must attend Cumberland Schools (proof of residence). CAR WASH, 9 a.m. at Advance Auto in Dillwyn sponsored by New Redeemed Tabernacle. All donations will go toward our outreach ministry and youth. GOSPEL CONCERT, 3 p.m. at Southside Community College. Special guests the Disciples of Christ of Columbus, Ohio.

OPEN TRAIL NIGHTS, 9-11 p.m. at High Bridge Trail State Park between Farmville and River Road. The public is welcome to walk or ride the trail under the light of the full moon. The closest access to High Bridge is from the Camp Paradise parking area in Prince Edward County.

JULY 29

FIFTH SUNDAY MUSICAL SERVICE, 11 a.m. by the Heritage Bluegrass Band at Union Grove Baptist Church, 2006 County Line Road, Keysville. Lunch will follow. All are welcome.

CONCERT, 7 p.m. featuring “Prodigal Son” at Rough Creek Presbyterian Church. Light refreshments following the concert and all are welcome to attend. The church is located 3 miles north of Phenix on Highway 727.

FAMILY AND FRIENDS DAY, 11 a.m. at Triumph Baptist Church, Darlington Heights Road. The Rev. James W. Morris, pastor, will preach and the church choir will sing. A car and motorcycle show and a picnic lunch will be after the service. Casual dress. Everyone is welcome.

FIFTH SUNDAY SINGING, 11 a.m. at Union Grove Baptist Church, 2006 County Line Road, Keysville. This will be a special time of worship featuring Heritage, a bluegrass band from Richmond. They will share the gospel through their songs and bluegrass picking. Everyone is welcome. Lunch will be served.

SUNDAY NIGHT HYMN SING, 6 p.m. at Worsham Baptist Church. All are welcome.

JULY 29-AUGUST 2

JOINT VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL, 6:30-8:30 p.m. of Fitzgerald Memorial Baptist Church and Payne Memorial United Methodist Church. We will have classes or volunteer work for ages 2-18. Closing program and picnic on Friday, at 6:30 p.m. Family and friends are welcome. Hero Central will be the theme. The event will be held at Payne Memorial Methodist, 1 Stoney Point Road (across from the Court House).

DROP OFF AND PICK UP, 4-4:30 p.m. for the Riverside Café All Members Show. Any member not currently exhibiting at Riverside Cafe that would like to display one piece should contact Rick Thomas. Also anyone that wants to change their art that is currently on display should contact Thomas.

JULY 31

BECOME A COURT APPOINTED SPECIAL ADVOCATE, 6 p.m. in the conference room of the J. Robert Jamerson Memorial Library, located on Main Street in Appomattox. CAREGIVER SUPPORT GROUP, 2-3 p.m. for families and caregivers of persons living with dementia at Brookview at The Woodland, 2005 Cobb St., Farmville. For information contact Marion Kyner at (434) 392-6106.

LUNCH AND LEARN PROGRAM, noon at the Prince Edward County Cooperative Extension Office, 100 Dominion Drive, Farmville and learn about Hydroponics, growing plants in water. Free and open to the public. Bring your lunch.

AUGUST 3

SUMMER FUNDRAISER, 6 p.m. at Cartersville Community House, 2275 Cartersville Road, Cartersville to support the Cartersville Volunteer Fire Department. Outdoor movie, dinner and games. Movie is free with a charge for concessions and bounce house. Rain date, Aug. 4. Bring lawn chairs and blankets.

AUGUST 4

ROUTES OF RHYTHM MUSIC TRAIL, to feature Davis Bradley Duo at Bear Creek Hall, 22 Bear Creek Lake Road, Cumberland. Performance is free and will be held rain or shine.

SUMMER NIGHT STARLIGHT, 8-9:30 p.m. at Sailor’s Creek presented by the Crewe Astronomy Club. Free and open to the public.

AUGUST 4-7

KERSHAW TRAIL CLEANUP, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Sailor’s Creek Battlefield Historical State Park. Volunteers will assist park personnel in removing debris from timbering. Volunteers are welcome to come and leave at any time during the event.

AUGUST 5

MEMORIAL TRIBUTE CELEBRATION, 3 p.m. at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 16 Horsepen Road, Farmville, in memory of the late Rev. Lee Watkins, Jr. The Springfield Travelers will be in concert. The Rev. Arlene Marble will lead the worship experience. Come and share with us his legacy.

PASTOR AND FIRST LADY ANNIVERSARY, 4 p.m. at Spirit of Life Church of God in Christ, 308 South Virginia St., Farmville for Pastor Novey W. Wiley and First Lady Geraldine Wiley.

BACK TO SCHOOL BASH, noon – 2 p.m. sponsored by Passion Community Church, PCC, 382 Fairground Road, Farmville, to benefit children and families in the community with school supply giveaways. Free food for all.

AUGUST 5-8

HOMECOMING/REVIVAL, at Petersville Baptist Church, New Canton. Lunch will be served after the 11 a.m. worship service. Worship services will be held each evening at 7:30 p.m. There will different guest ministers and choirs each night.

HOMECOMING & REVIVAL, 11 a.m. at First Liberty Baptist Church with lunch to follow worship service. Revival begins on Monday with praise and prayer at 7:30 p.m. and worship at 8 p.m. Guest revivalist will be Pastor Xavier Jackson, Chapman Grove Baptist Church, Charlottesville with different guest choirs and ushers each night.

AUGUST 5-10

HOMECOMING/ REVIVAL, 10 a.m. at Cedar Baptist Church, 3932 Bell Road, Dillwyn. Worship service at 11 a.m. with lunch following. There will be a song service featuring Chris Lewis at 1:30 p.m. Evangelist Roger Roller will be conducting Revival services Monday-Friday. The services will begin each night at 7 p.m. Special music each night.

AUGUST 7

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT, sponsored by The Town of Farmville. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community.

BEEKEEPERS TO MEET, 7 p.m. at the Prince Edward County Extension Office across from Lowe’s in Farmville. Dave Richmond will present a program on how to melt and clean beeswax and how to make things out of it. For more information call Mary Jane Morgan at (434) 315-1433.
