Political spin

Editor:

I was somewhat amused at a comment by Mr. Kamen in his letter to the editor “Confessions of a delegate” in the May 9 issue of the Herald. As a former Republican candidate for the Virginia Legislature and supporter of several Democratic candidates I consider myself fairly neutral.

I have never met and know little about Leslie Cockburn, but I do know about political “spin.” To portray someone who worked 35 years as producer of “60 Minutes” making, I’m sure, a very large salary as a “small farmer near Cville [sic]” is a little ludicrous. There are horse farms, wineries, country estates, and otherwise very expensive real estate around Charlottesville that only the very wealthy can purchase and maintain.

Mr. Kamen, please don’t insult our intelligence by trying to portray Ms. Cockburn as a small farmer. We have many of those here in southside Virginia, and they deserve our praise for hard work and dedication, not as spin for a political agenda.
