The Piedmont Soil and Water Conservation District, which is part of the National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD), celebrated NACD’s Stewardship Week April 29 – May 6. Stewardship Week is one of the largest national annual programs to promote natural resource conservation. The 2018 theme is “Watersheds: Our Water, Our Home” and aims to raise awareness about the importance of protecting water quality in our communities. As part of Stewardship Week, students across Amelia, Nottoway, and Prince Edward – the three counties served by the Piedmont Soil and Water Conservation District – were invited to take part in a poster contest to illustrate the theme of the week. Piedmont SWCD received 350 entries from area schools, and students did a great job displaying their creative talents while illustrating the importance of conserving our water resources. Poster contest winners at Full Circle Nature School were Alyssa Blevins (1st place), Nikki Rappleyea (2nd place), Walt Spears (3rd place), and Lola Kimmel (Honorable Mention). Alyssa Blevins also received the Honorable Mention award for the District- wide competition.
